Good signing. They needed another option at center that can play at the nhl level. If I’m the flyers I would also experiment with Giroux at the 3C spot. Counting on Morgan frost to give this team anything substantial would be very risky. |

First they bury York, now Frost. Not good for either player's development. I thought you'd have more to say about what this does to the cap situation. There must be a trade coming to free up some space. |

York and even frost getting time in the AHL isn’t going to harm either players development. Neither have earned anything |

Fletch hedging his bets with cheap signings after relying too much on youth last year. I like it! |

Agree. A deep playoff run for the phantoms can do wonders as well.
Bill of the ones invited to camp who do you like the most? Avon?
If he does ok I could easily see them take a chance on van der beast. |

For what it's worth, Nate Thompson participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
I like having vets in the line-up. We have seemed to address our need to lower goals against. Now it is up to our top 6/9 to put the puck in the net. If that happens and Hart bounces back, it won't matter (as much) who the F our 3 and 4Cs are.
Nothing wrong with having the young kids prove themselves and earn the spot. Brassard may be blocking Frost at this stage. If Frost performs as well as we think he should, that forces CF and AV to get him in the line-up. If not, he plays important minutes in LV and we plug in a veteran C. Same with York/Yandle. |

they'd have to move contracts to even get them into the lineup, what with being right up against the cap, no? |

Frost is coming off a serious shoulder injury and is all of what 170 lbs? Yea not counting on him in the slightest |

I agree with you in your first statement. They don't have to make a trade. They can be cap compliant without it.

34-yo Derik Brassard isn't exactly a sure bet either, tho. |

All of the frost hate... I fully expect him to be up with and stick with the big club by mid season.
Call down. CF is just making some veteran depth signings, which we needed. Frost will eventually play and stay. I can't believe people are giving up on frosty already |

We are up against the cap ceiling, but there is time until we have to be cap compliant. Being over the cap right now means that moves must be made eventually. There is no rush. We can move someone out via trade. There could be an injury during camp. Lots of scenarios to still shake out. |

I like to believe that if Frost outplays Brassard then Frost stays. But I am assuming they are in direct competition with each other. What if one of them moves to wing and NAK is odd man out?
Lots to still shake out. Nothing wrong with being at the cap ceiling in August. |

They don't need to trade anyone to be cap compliant. They can come out of camp with a 22 man roster under the cap. |

Or it could be Allison, who's not a lock either. |

I understand the "good" signing ... but it is another block for the younger players. That and it raises the question, are the Flyers that close that this kind of a move could put them over the top?
IMHO, this is a placate the coach move. And Fletcher covering himself. But just my opinion.

Coaches prefer veterans in a lot of cases. There is a previous connection between Vigneault and Brassard. I don't like this signing but I like it even less if they intend to play Brassard at 3C. Fletcher is well past the overcompensating point in my opinion.

Maybe Brassard is not blocking anyone and there to fill in if Hayes is not ready to start the season on time?

People seem to forget that Frost missed an entire year with a shoulder injury. These signings are an insurance policy nothing more.
Frost starting in the AHL hurts no one and is probably the smart move.
If he plays great and wins a job out of camp nothing prevents Thompson or Brassard from being scratched or waived.

He has actually missed more than entire year. We all seen how that worked out with Patrick.
Now that being said no way does AV scratch either of those 2 to start the year imo.

The best players are going to get the spots. If Frost outplays Brassard, he will play and then you have NHL experience waiting in the wings. I don’t see a problem here. |
