The only acceptable deal for coots to Stayin Alive would have been a 1 year extension because when a player hits 30, they are totally cooked and should not be playing in the NHL anymore. |
|
|
|
He definitely would get 8 years and close to 9mil in free agency. This was unexpected. Very excited to lock him up - Richieattack18
Can only get 7 years in free agency. So lets say 7 years 9 per. As opposed to 8 years 7.75 per. He really didn't leave much on the table at all.

No cup for next decade. Cool. Go canes - Stayin alive
How can you root for a team with a Jordan Staal contract like that He is 32 with a few more seasons at 6 mil?!? The horror. No cup for them. They also have a ton of contracts extending well into players 30s. They are screwed!! |

34-yo Derik Brassard isn't exactly a sure bet either, tho. - Tomahawk
So what happens if frost Allison and tanner all get injure? Which is a possibility. Insurance. |

This is why I think we can lock Risto up if he does well. Everyone saying 7 mil. But for 8 years the aav goes down a little. Right… |

Cheap is a bit of a stretch. We pretty much assumed he was going to get what Giroux got. We saved 525k

To me this is a statement by Coots, this is where he wants to win, he took a deal that at worse is really fair and truly it is just team friendly.
most haters will go silent or be more ridiculous than usual.
I have not loved all of CF's move but he has loaded the boat, addressed every position and really put it on the players to go and make it happen.
There is competition at every position, there is depth and they have leadership.
Again, I don't love every move but I am locked in and 100% behind them and ready for next season...

Not questioning Frost’s motivation ir drive. Just saying a healthy competition doesn’t hurt anyone. Fringe vets were signed as the back up. Between injuries, the several back to backs, and Covid it doesn’t hurt to have depth. Brassard and Thompson won’t be regulars if younger guys player better. - arichardson22
This is where we disagree. I don't think the fringe vets were signed as backup. I see them as ahead of players like Frost on the depth chart.

Here comes stronzo with still spewing the false narrative. Show one poster who said he will test free agency?
With the exception of 3 guys on their last leg's on min deals every free agent agrees with you them not being a destination.

Mhm. Flyers got a very good deal. Canes perhaps got an absolute steal. He isn’t quite the two-way player Coots is, but that looks nice.
Svech is very young to have taken that, but I guess he’s lined himself up for two big paydays in his contract. |

Maybe, but I think it is smart not to rely on a guy who missed so much time expecting he can step right in to an NHL role. The smart move is starting him in the AHL and if he knocks the NHL door down more power to him.
The obvious plan is that they expect him to get top line minutes for the Phantoms to get his legs back and I dont think its a bad plan. |
