Condolences to those 14 (at least) families who lost a brave servicemember today. These are the deaths that punch you in the gut and hit you hard - corduroy
Add in the women and children killed….just another sad day. As well service members there to help evacuate…not fight….what a gutless attack. |

Couts not a sexy pick in terms of speed and pure hockeytalent.. But the critics and the pundants like his D game. |

Personally I feel this says a lot of what Couturier thinks of this team/organization. Did he just get a pay bump...yes, but he could of easily dragged it out way longer to see how the team did during the season and/or opted until the season finished.
Is the term super long...yup, but I REALLY thought he would be asking for at least 8-9m per. |

Isis-K suicide guy - THE EVIL WITHIN
They gotta pick a better name for this BS.
ISIS was bad enough as it was so close to Isis.
Isis-K might as well be a cereal targeted towards hippie chicks and Egyptian women. Definitely a patchouli vibe. |

Good signing, funny though, I remember several years back when all flyer fans were calling for him to be traded. |

Oh, yeah. I remember a few simpletons trying to run him out of town before he could drink.
The Flyers didn’t do him a whole lot of favors with his usage through the first half of his career, though. |

The same folks griping about the term would be griping instead about cap hit had it been something several seasons shorter. - bmeltzer
You're wrong on that one. This is a bad contract period. The Flyers are over paying for past performance because they just under paid for past performance.
I've been on this site 14 years and rarely disagreed with you, but the fact you're hopeful the Giroux/Coots contracts will even out to what the Flyers paid for them the past 5 years is wrong. The G/Coots combo will be worse in 2022 than they were in 2019 for example. They should cost less.
This is how teams create a black hole for themselves. (see: Anaheim, San Jose) Overpaying for past performance and holding on too long to former standout players.

I understand what you're saying... some players decline badly, long-term contracts carry significant risks.
However, there are certain subset that seems to carry less of a risk: Datsyuk, Kopitar, Bergeron and Stone... all-around, uber-consistent, high throughput hockey brains... those guys don't seem to decline at the same rate as the general population.
I firmly put Coots in that category. |

he’s not at the level of player as the aforementioned (sans Stone); however, if your strictly talking category of guys with long term ability, then yes, I think you’re probably correct.
I think a fair amount of us here were expecting a scarier cap hit. I know I was.
The term raises my brow a little, I can’t deny that, but I believe in the end it’s a pretty decent deal.
Amazing to think he’ll have been a Flyer for like 18 or 19 years when it’s all said and done should the deal play out (and it appears that’s most likely the scenario) |

Coots did you guys a favor. He could have probably pushed you guys for something touching 9 in all likelihood. even if it stretched it out an extra year.
Better or worse you guys are built to win now. an extra 2 mil going to Coots per year in the next four year window would have been really detrimental.
youre done when hes 37, not 40. absent the mentality of they should have traded him and then tanked (which was never within the realm of reality) it is lunacy to complain about this deal |

How could anyone knock this deal? - landros 2
Because their are multiple posters on Flyersbuzz that understand cap dynamics and how to run an NHL team way better than Fletcher ever will. It is known.
