I know some dislike Chuck but the reality is: with the ample changes he made this summer, if the Flyers win a playoff series or two he is likely a candidate for GM of the year IMO. Agree or disagree?

Well, if you look at overall playoff games played, 4 of the top 5 guys are brand new additions. He certainly did some tinkering.
I think he needs to make the conference finals to get consideration, though. That’s an uphill battle.
A lot is riding on a confident and productive re-emergence of Carter Hart.

Yeah, if the Flyers beat their level of success from two years ago with all the new additions then yes, he ought to win it.

Madness. It’s a team friendly deal for a core guy. - Hextall271
He’s the type you build your roster around: 1A Center who’ll put up 60-70 points and be a reliable shutdown forward and consistent contender for the Selke. Those guys get paid and the fact we got him under 8 is a great deal. Some are just looking to complain.
PS…prayers to all those who’ve lost loved ones in Afghanistan today.

Coots did you guys a favor. He could have probably pushed you guys for something touching 9 in all likelihood. even if it stretched it out an extra year.
Better or worse you guys are built to win now. an extra 2 mil going to Coots per year in the next four year window would have been really detrimental.
youre done when hes 37, not 40. absent the mentality of they should have traded him and then tanked (which was never within the realm of reality) it is lunacy to complain about this deal - stayinthefnnet
As a Pens fan, you can rest easy knowing that Chuck will tack on that extra $2M to Risto's extension.
Looks like Giroux might be a goner after the season if not at the trade deadline(if they are out of contention at that time). My worry about Couturier is durability. Seems like he is always dealing with some kind of nagging injury that slows him down some(even though he still plays). He doesn't need that cause he ain't exactly a speed skater. His hockey IQ allows him to make up for his lack of speed, but as he ages that may become more of a concern.

remember when no olympic invite or stanley cup giroux broke both wrists and got arrested for man ass grabbing....

I can't say he really has 💩 the bed yet with the flyers.
Nope. He's not going anywhere else. Exactly why there is no hurry. He wasn't asked to waive his NMC for the expansion draft. There was never a discussion about a captaincy change. Fletcher said Giroux will be a Flyer as long as he wants to be here. It is very likely that Giroux and Brinson said this summer that he intends to finish his career as a Flyer.

I’m very glad to hear that. Hopefully they can come to an agreement that works well for both.

Makes sense. IMO Giroux is being a team guy and waiting until next years cap situation is more clear next summer. He has already made his big contract and will take a team friendly deal.

I would bet money on it. - MBFlyerfan
First of all, love the Sean Couturier deal. Second, Giroux’s next deal with say a lot about Giroux himself and his commitment not only to this team but winning overall. Stay tuned.

I expect the same. I know he wants to win here and really hope we can get it done in the coming years. He deserves it.

Hope you’re right. I don’t know. I don’t think if he puts up a bunch of points his deal will be all that team friendly, but we’ll see.
