Wrong he will be 38 in the final year of his contract. His birthday is in DEC 3 mths into the season of his 38th birthday - hfc355
pretty easy dude. 2029-1992 = what? |
|
|
|
Then I would have traded him at the deadline could have gotten quite a bit for him....way way to long a contract with a full NTC for a guy who has had knee problems...is going to be 38 during last year of contract . Love Couts but not a team helpful deal. - hfc355
Once they made the moves they did they were not going to trade him or clode. I would have traded both this summer. This orginizatpn just continues to spin its wheels.

Comfortable in top 10...??? Vegas has them 15th and 6th in Met behind Canes..Caps..Pens..Isles and Rangers...They arent a top 10 team - hfc355
And I care about Vegas because? You are do understand how Vegas determines odds and what their ultimate goal is? |

It seems like every time a major contract is signed, it has to be explained how things work. Players like leverage. It gets them what they want. It's why Sanheim was willing to sign a two year deal. He gets future leverage. Negotiations are a give and take. Couturier took less money than he could likely get on an open market UFA deal. In exchange for doing so, he received 8 years of security, which is one more year than he can get with another team as a UFA. Plus, and here is the major part of the contract that separates his deal from a player like Landeskog. The signing bonus structure of the contract makes it completely buyout proof. Which means no matter what, he will get paid the full value of the contract. - MJL
I see now what you are saying, Landeskog's deal is almost entirely base salary while $42M of Cout's deal is bonus. |

Add the Pens and Flyers in the 13-15 range is about right..half the league is better and half is not |

there can be debate on what other teams may be ahead of the Flyers, are they top 10 or top 15 etc. I think the difference between most teams is very small on paper. It is all about how they play and what team stays healthy. Example, are the Caps and Pens better than the Flyers, maybe yes but you can make a case they are not. Another example, I don't see the Bruins being as good as they were last season but they get the benefit of the doubt based upon the past. But according to this board Bergeron is way to old and will breakdown, without him ???

I'm impressed how some of you carry over negativity and criticism blog to blog. Are half the posters that show up in Bills blog even fans of this team? You certainly could have fooled me.
Some of the critiques I've been reading on the Brassard signing and Couturier extension are beyond non-sensical. |

This is why I do not give the GM much credit for this deal. Ex selke made it happen. The way Chuck negotiates he probably offered more.... - hello it's me 2050

Love, LOVE, LOVE this signing!
We play so much better with Couts in the line up. And it was for less money than I expected. If he had gone free agency it would have ben much more. Jury is still out on some of the other signings but this team won't be boring when the season starts. That's for sure. Fletch knew he had holes and he definitely went after them.
I was curious why the contract was "buyout proof". I learned that buyouts are 2/3rds of the salary but the player gets all of their signing bonus... I learned something new today. I figured I'd share for those who weren't contract specialists...
I'm just thrilled that he's staying and didn't screw the team in the process.

Didn’t know that either. And yeah. He’s no Tavares that’s for sure. |

this. and couturier will be 38 in the last year of his contract. - Ftown19125
Boston doesn't seem to be crying Bergeron will be 37 when his ends and they will probably resign him next year. Coots plays a similar game and while offensive production may dip over time, his elite level to defend will not.
This may be the best thing CF did this offseason and I have been overall very happy with all of his moves.
If next summer he gives Braun and part of Yandle's money to Risto to keep him and then signs G to a team friendly 4.75-5M he has done his best to put a very good team on the ice...As Coots said, it is now time for the team to perform.
For me, one hidden gem in the moves is getting Cam A. I think he will be very helpful to TK's development...I think that is a new bromance... |

Cam's attitude is the stuff you need to be contagious in the locker room to change a culture. |

pretty much agree. i didn't like the adding of the first for risto, and adding brassard and thompson both is overkill, but otherwise i've liked the moves and love couturier's deal. even if the last couple of years aren't that great. |

Coots is a quiet guy in his public persona. He plugs away, maximizing his life.
Apparently, money is not his concern beyond a certain point.
He has a family and friends that he enjoys and teammates he values.
He'd rather be here than anywhere else.
Since he is competitive, I suspect he thinks well enough or this franchise to stake his career on it. His career will be one of unending accomplishments, IMO.
But it can be curtailed by random fluctuations in the Cosmic Web, such as injuries and random disasters.
You lays your bets that the Universe doesn't kill you every day. I think I'd bet on Coots to survive and prosper. He's a very tough guy and one I've been impressed with since his drafting.
Those of you who think betting against him is wise, WHY?
He seems to be a younger Bergeron (Man, do I respect and hate that guy!). If he shows the same degree of durability, (availability being the best ability) and team orientation as his elder, with no indication he WON"T fulfill his obligations.
Bergeron on his signing sounds like Coots. Apparently, the 'youngster' knows who to align with.
"I started my career as a Bruin, they're the team that believed in me as an 18-year-old coming in, and now I'm really happy now to say I will hopefully retire a Bruin," Bergeron, 28 this month, said Friday. "That's a goal. That's what I want. … I'm really proud to be a Bruin, hopefully for life. I have a lot of pride every time I step on the ice as a Bruin. I couldn't be happier."
I think Coots is Aces and has long been such!
Summary: this MAY result in disappointment but betting against Coots is a mistaken endeavor. He's a boss. |
