Rumour has it that Stan contemplated offer sheeting Nolan Patrick at $1,500,000 but he didn’t want to give up a 3rd round pick.
- DarthKane

Stan will help old friend Bergevin out. Montreal lets KK go. Stan trades Tyler Johnson to Montreal $2.5 retained and their 3rd round pick from the Canes.

If Bergevin doesn't match the offer sheet, the Habs will be a bit thin at center.

A future destination for Strome?

- boilermaker100

Habs are reportedly shopping the pending offer sheet compensation of the 1st and 3rd in the event that they let Kotkaniemi walk to the Canes.

Bowman needs to get in on that. Would love to get a 2022 1st back. Just don’t get fleeced in the process.

Ok for what? What on the hawks would the habs want for a 1st and 3rd? Not much imo unless hawks trading Kubalik or decat. Berg likes beaudin but i think he is a keeper. So who knows.

To m the easiest way to resolve the Kubalik on his off wing on the power play is to double shift Kane and have him switch to the left side on the second power play unit withKubalik on the right side.
Kane is the most talented, creative and has the best hockey intelligence in the organization in MHO so let him figure out how to get Kubalik the puck working from the left boards on the second unit
The hawks should also make Kane the captain this upcoming season

I don't think Strome alone is worth a first round pick. Bergevin would love to move Drouin and his 2 x 5.5M cap hit. Given Stan's MO for 1st round pick reclamation projects, would he do Strome for Drouin and a pick as a sweetener?

They (Habs) re-signed Poehling to a cheap 2-year deal earlier today.

Unreal at $750k. Misused in MTL. Hope to see him in a Hawks uni some day.

Thought he was an up and comer too. He scored a hat trick in the one and only game he played one season when Montreal burned the 1st year of his ELC after signing. But hasn't shown much since. I think he was hurt last year and never sniffed NHL ice.

If I remember correctly he was one of the Hawks targets in the 2017 draft. I could see another 1st round reclamation project for Stan.

Tough to make much noise on inconsistent 4th line mins playing behind has beens. Swap Nylander for him yesterday!

I think Kane is both the best asset, and biggest liability on the PP. I’d sooner see him removed from the PP altogether than have him double shift.

If Strome is sent to the Habs for a 1st, the deal would definitely need to be expanded. Would guess it would take Strome + Beaudin at least. Bergevin has coveted Beaudin for a while.

The Hawks should get something else in return, though, if that was the case. The Habs need centers so it's not they have all the leverage in this deal.

I would prefer not to take on Drouin but the Hawks may need to take some salary back.

IIRC, Poehling not only scored a hat trick in his NHL debut but scored the winner in the shootout that game.

Putting that accolade to the side, Poehling is projected to be a 3rd line center more as a poor-mans version of Danault. Even when he was drafted he wasn't seen as top 6 material. More middle 6.

IMO, the Hawks need PP2 to get more time if not just as much as PP1. There's enough talent to field two units. No need to overwork Kane.

It's more about player movement and overloading the other team's PK to one side than personnel. Get the opponent moving and exposed.

I’d like the second unit have a different look. I’d like to see more of a chaotic physical approach in front of the net with the strategy of all the players and the defensemen in particular to get pucks on the net and look for screens and rebounds.

I'd be all for that idea. Didn't Colliton and crew try PP1 with a strategy and PP2 with a different one last year? Not sure if they stuck with that approach or eventually abandoned it.

One unit was about puck movement and skill while the other unit was more about hard work and industriousness. Something like that.

PP2 can be productive with that approach because the puck and players are moving. It's PP1 that's an issue with more than enough puck movement but very little player movement.

Puck movement is fine but very easy to telegraph. Adding in player movement is what makes it work to create lanes and fool the opponent.

I believe at times, especially when teams are very aggressive going after the puck especially when Kane has it, Kane passes to a team mate and goes to the net. If teams are going to be aggressive the Blackhawks need to meet that aggression with aggression to the front of the net

Okay I got it figured out.

Strome to Montreal for Drouin and a prospect as a sweetener to take on Drouin cap hit. Prospect either Poehling or Primeau. If Primeau send them Subban.

Bergevin then sends the Carolina 1st and 3rd to Arizona and some player making about 2M for Dvorak.

Montreal gets 2 centers making 7.5M or only 1.5M more than the KK offer sheet. Since they unloaded 7.5M in salary they are cap neutral.

Stan gets Drouin and either a C or G prospect and 2.5M additional cap hit which he'll have to do something about.

I notice the Tommy Hawk (“official mascot of the Chicago Blackhawks”) prominently displayed in the photo, and, more importantly, on the truck.

Is this Danny’s administration gradually moving away from the Indianhead and toward the bird as the logo?

Having Toews and Dach back should help both units, last year we did not have enough talent up front to ice two units, if I recall even Carpenter got some powerplay time. This year you’ll have Kane, Dcat, Kubalik, Toews, and Dach, plus maybe some others will step up(Nylander, Hagel, Johnson, Gaudette, Borgstrom), not to mention Seth Jones on the point. To be honest, one recipe for success is to have a shutdown PK and an okay powerplay.

Nope. Its the van they use for Tommy Hawk's public appearances. Not to mention Tommy Hawk has been around for years.

Well, matching means the Habs have to shed another salary and be Cap strapped all season. Strome makes 3 million and they are already close to over ...

Cap Friendly tweet:
We currently show the #Habs as being $2,276,370 above the ceiling based on a roster of 21 players (12F - 7D - 2G) and 2 players on IR.

It would tentatively put them at $8,376,385 over the cap if Montreal were to match the Offer Sheet.

Good luck trying to find Jonathan Drouin's 5.5 mil for 2 more seasons a new team or finding a trade for newly signed Mike Hoffman's...if any one wanted him, they would have called while he was an UFA....

- wiz1901

Weber is out for the year. They still have ~5M of his cap hit to use on LTIR and Byron is out unitl December. So they have options without having to give away players.

Anybody else think that the Canes and Kotkaniemi have another agreement in place, like an extension of 4X$3M, so with this years $6M that’s basically 5X$3.6M. In essence they get a top three pick for a 2nd and a fourth, because they will be picking late due to their probable success.
