Bone healing and growth should be about 3 months for it to fuse. TDR doesn't fuse, but there can be some growth that happens of the endplates to the surface of the TDR. That basically helps hold the position of the implant. It only has to grow a short distance Compared to one vertebral body to the other for fusion. Significant bone growth needs to occur in comparison to a TDR
In a fusion case if there is micro motion you can get what is a called a non union. Basically the bone doesn't grow enough to create a solid fusion.
There is a strong possibility he is good after 3 months is not out of the realm. Potentially a better chance at 3 months with TDR compared to fusion. At least in my opinion, but I am not a surgeon so I am taking a stab here ,as this could be another hot debate topic.. But I have no idea what all of his symptoms are. So there could be some severe nerve issues or maybe even damage. If that is the case it could take longer for those nerves to heal regardless of which procedure he gets. We will prob get a good gage a couple weeks post op.
A data point I don't have but would love to, would be to know what athletes from what sport have either procedure. Then the outcomes, recovery and playing success post op. Additional years playing etc. A journal review on that would be interesting and definitely would paint a nice picture for this scenario. There may be a different number than 3 months. I think with his fusion he may be out longer than 3. - KOS
Thanks for the information |

Hutton was the major part of the goaltending question mark.
My max Ullmark offer would've been $4M per for 4 to 5 years.
If he said no, I'd have traded him and looked to find 2 goaltenders, not just one to replace Hutton.
I had a difficult time believing they were a playoff team with a tandem of Ullmark and Hutton in net last season, and that's not even counting the questions elsewhere on the team. - kingcong39
Ullmark used the Sabres offer and told the Bruins to match it or he would sign with the Sabres |

Pretty sure nobody thought hutton would get more than 8-10 starts out of the 56 game season. He was coming off an eye vision/ injury.
That's a very minor part of the goaltending situation.
Ullmark, should have been extended for good $, but not the major part of the goaltending question?
Can't have it both ways.
Ullmark needed to prove he could stay healthy, which he didnt......

Oh my!! Just looking at what Beane has done since he came here, always seems to pick up a pick or 2 from extra bodies in camp before cut down day. |

I'm confused.
You said Ullmark needed to prove he could stay healthy, and at the same time nobody thought Hutton would play more than 10 of the 56 games.
Another goaltender was going to play some of the 46 games Hutton didn't? Ullmark was going to play all 46 of those games? |

So the Sabres had no competent plan for backup goaltender if/when Ullmark got hurt, as Hutton was clearly incapable of playing that role.
How is that not a clear failure of the organization?
They were trying to be good last year, right? |

We have upl in the system correct? I think we all figured if hutton sucked, he would get a few games.
You are upset that we mismanaged our asset in ullmark
You would have given him a 4 or 5 million $ deal
You would have been worried about the back up position more than the starter, after extending the starter?
I can see why your confused, I'm confused too.
Guys magically sign for less in buffalo, long term, for less. They are worth great assets at the deadline but, the biggest issue with the goaltending is the backup ?
My point of view:
Ullmark needed to prove he was a good , dependable goalie before getting a big contract. Under the current management. He didnt ......
And were trying to pick early....
I wasnt signing him after 2018-19 and his 3.11 gaa
Went 15-19 that year....
That's when you were extending ullmark though ..... |

Bill's roster is going to be loaded for sure, it sure looks like a championship caliber team to me. Only area that concerns me is the defensive backfield, specifically the Nickle back position. Sure wish Beaner could find a quality upgrade there.
TY Hilton hurt. Wonder if Indy has any extra talent there that Beane could target...he has WR and DE talent he could package. |

Your definitely confused.
Why would the Sabres have to pay 2 starter type goalies when ullmark proved to you a capable starter?
You had faith enough to extend him for good money.
I thought ullmark needed to prove more.
He didn't..... |

Any concerns about the second year kicker? He makes the field goals, but they pull ....😉
I definitely feel like we have too many good d lineman.
Too good = cut without a return.
Wonder how they feel about oliver? Espenza?
Both mcbeane guys ,but they probably have some decent value and may have been passed on the depth chart.
* may have been passed

my big concerns in no particular order
1. ford, doesn't look good
2. the punter, why they let the leg go I will never understand
3. backup tackle, esp if brown is not good to go
4. #2 cb never been a fan of levi and it looks like johnson did not take that step foreward
5. and this is the biggest ???? will edmunds take that step we have been waiting for, he looked lost yesterday |
