Isn't that the ideal situation for a rebuilding team?
They'll have complete flexibility moving forward as opposed to a team like the Sharks who have Karlsson, Burns, Kane and Vlassic under contract for four more years for a total of $33m, all of whom are on the wrong side of 30 - Hank Balling
I'd want some vets on decent deals. McCabe for example.
If you put together a long term plan in net last summer, Ullmark is on a reasonable multi-year.
This is all the fallout of not having a plan and just reacting day to day. |

But they want a 2nd team in Mississauga? Yeah it wouldn't be up to them at that point.
They already threatened to move the Bills. Believe me, this confidence in the Sabres not becoming the Quebec or Hamilton club is unfounded if they don't start making money yesterday. - Jet Jaguar BD
That has been refuted by those in the room.
The Reporter's article that cited it was borderline reckless at best..so many factual errors. |

Yes, a tactic called saving face.
The owners are more concerned with family lifestyle than they are with hurting the people of Buffalo's feelings.
It's a business to them, plain and simple. And once Terry croaks, Kim will be even worse. She will either sell, sell, sell or up and relocate at least one of the teams.
Buffalo somehow gained population this past census, but I'd say it's more akin to suburban kids moving to the city than actual migration of people seeking out Buffalo as a place on the up.
Buffalo, as a city, is trying, but with dozens of larger cities hungry for a professional team, with it comes young money and a demand for professional sports. Buffalo may have the television viewers but it does not have the economic infrastructure that a lot of other metropolitan areas now have. |

Sabres aren't leaving Buffalo. - Powerslave
Correct. This group is in Canada and will leave the Sabres in Buffalo. If COVID didn't hit and the border be closed for so long, I would think the sale would occur before year end.
The only other possible new owner (my speculation only) is Jeffrey Gundlach. A billionaire from Amherst who I believe recently bought a house in the city. |

I agree with with the majority of your post, and it is certainly very possible they would sell, or move the Sabres franchise. They don't make money off the Sabres, I don't think anybody has except for an odd year here or there over the last 15sh years.
Bill's might be different their making a poop ton off them. Could it be more, absolutely friggin right, so the possibility is real. How probable moving is, is another question. And if they did move them, say goodbye to the Sabres as overcoming the backlash by fans after losing the Bills would be very difficult, at best. |

spector had a nice piece on the losing captain today
this part should be noted
"As for the Bruins, they only have $1.089 million in cap space. Landing Eichel means moving out significant cap dollars to free up sufficient space for Eichel’s contract. Maybe Sweeney can convince the Sabres to pick up some of his salary but that seems unlikely."

expect a massive Disney deal with new stadium for the bills when Terry checks out |

He could just pull
An Ovi, and say go ahead and fine me, I’m going to play in the olympics. Mind you, that Ovi’s relationship was a bit better with the Caps at the time, but I don’t see how forcing him to not play in the Olympics would benefit anyone |

I think the best thing for the Bills might actually be to lose the Sabres. The Sabres have always been a fair-weather fanbase here in Buffalo - They were mostly successful until the Pegulas bought them, missing the playoffs only a handful of times since their inception. However, I fear this hole is dug too deep at this point. They have been hemorrhaging money for over 10 years now and it's only going to get worse in the near future.
Bills have always had a rabid fanbase and I think being in Orchard Park helped really solidify that. Hardcore beyond hardcore - We're a XXX Hardcore fanbase. Always a packed stadium, always selling gear, always high viewership despite the local blackouts from back in the day.
If I had to choose it's the Bills all day every day and especially on Sunday. I've only gone to one church in my life and it's the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. |

They would have to give us Carlo, McAvoy, Smith, DeBrusk and a 1st if you ask me and that would deplete their d-corps. They can have Miller for the price of free but I see no scenario where either team benefits from an Eichel trade. |

It’s a very valid point. This is consistent with most teams that may want to target him.
Do we want a massive salary dump?
Players involved could refuse to report In Buffalo.
I just don’t see a deal
