Thanks my friend! And if you are in Ottawa, feel free to join us at a sports bar for a Redblacks road game. Home game again this Friday, so we meet at the southside part of the bridge in the east end zone. - Kevin Francis

I do, waiting to hear other things before I post anything, but lets put it this way....it helps that he has a few of his American friends on the roster. Been told 2 other things, but again, need to talk with my sources within the team first.

There are a few people who follow me on twitter and are in here on the blogs that know I am very close with a few players as well as others in the front office. There are always going to be naysayers, but if you had the chance to meet me or know me, you would see that I when I write something it's because I was told from a great source. I dont run everything I am told, some of it is just what ifs but the stuff I post is stuff that is being seriously talked about. You have to have a thick thin online as the naysayers are always the ones that wish they were ones being told this info or were able to post the info I post. It's very cut and dry. I am thankful to have those close to me on a few levels, it allows me to share some of it here in this column. |

Thanks! But naturally many of the naysayers will say otherwise. I knew they were close to signing him. I stated how he was waiver exempt for another year so you knew the first year of the deal would be a 2 way like I stated. The fact the team settled for 2 years, allows the player and the club to assess where he is at with the development of becoming an every day NHLer. Gustavsson can then cash in but the club still has his rights too!
But yes, nobody else was reporting that a deal was close. In fact, other "Sens" sites reported they had nothing to tell about the negotiations!

Just an observation, rightly or wrongly. It seems you really try hard to convince or impress anyone. Why bother. Just write up your opinions, facts, stats and look all the smarter without source dropping., your good at this blogging no need for theatricks. Your a welcomed source of daily Sens content. Keep up the good work. |

Fair enough, thanks for the kind words. But I truly am connected to some good people which is why I state it. I am not making anything up, I go with stories that are being seriously looked at. I dont just run anything that I am told. I try to do my due diligence on everything. Thanks for always stopping by! Working on a great piece as I speak, it will be up early in the morning. |

Is it to tell us that Melnyk's finally selling to someone with loads of cash who wants to take pride in this team? Because some of us here have been waiting for this news for years.
Joking aside, looking forward to read this piece with my coffee tomorrow... |

It's wild that you mention the Melnyk thing. Since I started writing here I have been doing a ton of research on him and behind the scene stuff. I will only post it when I have all my ducks in a row, but part of what I am posting tomorrow has to do with Melnyk but not the sale side of things. Sorry! Regardless, it will take everyone inside what has been going on of late with Melnyk/Dorion. But thanks for the kind words. Blog will be up very early!

How about Logan Brown to Caroline for Vincent Trocheck. - AlfieisKing
Now that is one of the more interesting C options I've heard yet. Trocheck is a natural RH shot, plays in all game situations, is strong on faceoffs, and plays with quite a bit of intensity. Now his 'breakout' year was in large part due to >40% of his points coming on the PP, but if they were looking for a guy to play between Stutzle and Brown, Trocheck would be a very natural fit. Factor in the link to Logan Brown, and potential need for Carolina to quickly drop a $5M contract, and you have something that could make a lot of sense for both teams.

Well said, yes it makes a lot of sense! Plus the position they have put themselves in, Carolina will be desperate to move a contract. |

The Senators have been quite good with their RFA goaltender contracts. The deal they gave Daccord made him attractive enough to become the Seattle expansion pick, and once again they've managed to work in an AHL/NHL transition into the new Gustavsson deal. Looks like they're expecting Forsberg to be the NHL back-up this year, with Gustavsson on a two-way term in year 1 of the deal. Then next year, things get more interesting with Gustavsson taking over as the NHL back-up, and Sogaard being given the #1G reins in the AHL. It will also give Gustavsson 2yrs in the NHL backing up Murray to see if he has what it takes to become the next #1G, or whether he'll be more of a transition support for Sogaard's development. |
