Though the cost of 6.1M (for at least 2 years to hold his rights) and a 1st and 3rd seems high, although would love to see him shine in Carolina just because.......Besides we got to keep the cups coming in the US, Not up north. |

Maybe Habs match offer and trade KK & Drouin + to Buffalo for Eichel. |

Offer sheets don't work this way. If Montreal matches, they CANNOT trade KK. |

Yep, caught that just a bit ago......so the 20 is just to let Bergy know they were unhappy about the Aho offer sheet. Doesn't matter, KK is not worth the 6.1.....nothing he has done would justify it. - Frozendisc
Well, for MTL they go from Suzuki, KK and Danault down the middle to just Suzuki. Thats a brutal hit. |

So offer sheets automatically include a ntc? Even for those not eligible? |

Habs management and many Habs fans still consider KK a project and very few see him becoming a superstar. My guess is that Bergevin will not match the offer sheet and welcome Carolina's draft picks while Canes will be stuck paying 6M$ for 25-30 points/year forward. |

I am not sure if I understand how paying a guy who had five goals and fifteen assists last year six million dollars and giving away a first and a third in a good draft year makes any sense.
Revenge is supposed to hurt the other guy. |

Its a rule specifically for Offer Sheets only. If the team receiving the sheet matches, they cannot trade involved player for one full year. Since the Offer Sheet here is only one year long, then it makes him ineligible to be traded by Montreal. |

I guess the Canes are confident it will be a late 1st round pick. |

When you begin a journey of revenge start by digging 2 graves. One for your enemy and one for yourself |

Canes have the luxury of putting Svech on his line to raise his game. |

I’m not sure the Habs will be too hurt by this. Now they know where the number stands. The compensation is fine should they choose it.
As for the Canes, it’s not a bad move at all. I think he’d do well there.
The attempted Aho poach was far worse.
Could this actually be a win/win offer sheet? Odd to think of it that way, but I can see it.
Well, the clock is tickin, now |

KK will do better playing with the Canes’ talent. He’s young. But still, I think the Habs will do fine with the compensation if they let him go. |

KK is a soft player, very weak mentally…
Bergevin! Take the picks and suck-up your mistake…. KK should never have pick picked that early to start with…

Part of the point is it sends a message to every team in the league not just Montreal. No they can't offer sheet every team, but every team will think twice before going after a Carolina player again. |

Let him go and offer sheet Necas next year. Send word you will offer big bucks. Make the Canes pay him at least 6.1 million per and totally mess up their salary structure. This will put the pressure on KK to out perform Necas. Where does KK fit behind Aho, Trocheck, Staal, Stephan and Necas? This is really odd. |

Disagree! This may come back and haunt Carolina….. the offer sheet was fair play, the message attached with the bonus was stupid. KK agreeing demonstrates a real lack of maturity/reality and IMO is the end of him in Montrèal….take the picks MB and move on.

oh come on, there are 6.1 million good reasons why KK would agree to that deal... Bergevin couldn't have said better himself, "if you want loyalty, get a dog". today's NHL is all about business, and to accept this generous offer was the most logical thing to do. |
