His qualifying offer is 6.1.

They can agree on a contract of any term before that

- mr.peanut

I see.

then Bergevin could do the same, no?

how can they do this if they need to offer him the same next season to keep his rights?
- deadpoulet

That only applies if he hasn't signed an extension before July 1st.

In order to retain his rights he has to be either under contract on July 1 or offered a contract of at least $6.1 million per.

If they sign him for $3 million for 3 years or whatever, it works. The qualifying offer is just to retain their RFA rights if they haven't already signed an extension.

No!

This is how sinister the offer is.

Nothing stops them from doing a 5 year deal for $20m. starting next year.

Correct. Bergebin can match and then try to negotiate a longer term deal starting the following season.

I saw his name mentionned a little. Don't know him all that much.

You think Winnipeg would give up already on Dubois?

- deadpoulet

Who knows…but he sure didn’t fit well in WPG last year. Hertl is a UFA in a year and would make a very, very good # 2 C on almost any team.

Then again, KK could wait knowing he would get the same amount for another year. Something he won't get from mtl.

Possible, but personally I'd take the picks. There IS the risk that KK won't sign for less than his Qualifying Offer and then you end up in a situation where you either pay him $6.1 or he becomes a UFA.

Bergevin signs Aho to an up front 8 mill a year contract, then gives Kotkaniemi to them for 6.1 mill a year, his evil plan to bankrupt Dundon in a few years and move the team to Quebec is almost complete! 😈😈🤣

They have to qualify him at 6.1 mill plus next year, and the following which means forget your 3-4 mill bridge deal
- DonCherries

Lotta posters, one quotes Friedman, say this is wrong. ...... And if Carolina can trade him to fill a need seems there would be a good deal of interest in 21 yr old 3rd overall pick who plays center and has 171 NHL games under his belt.

But he has to match the $6.1 for this year and deal with the short term cap consequences. If you got enough time you can always figure out something that works. The reason why this fits under the stealth heading is because of the timing. Does not Bergevin much runway for either time or money.

Everything was done to hurt Montreal more than it was to benefit Carolina.

I'm making myself a 2nd one, so you better get started.

Pour some milk or something like cream in it for me.

Just a little, you know?

Nobody seems to know exactly how much.

We know he got around $1 billion in cash payouts when he sold off his auto loan company to Santander, but he owns a bunch of stuff through his investment company, Dundon Capital Partners, including being the majority shareholder of TopGolf, a golf course, a 30 story office tower in downtown Dallas, a health insurance company, and Carvana (the guys with those huge car vending machines in the US.)
