So does the 1st and 3rd draft picks get added into an offer for Eichel.

Read the rest of the (frank)ing line.

I said if he could not sign them, then he should have found replacements.

Habs have known for over a year that Danault was gone. So that was not a shock.. they went out and got scrubs to replace him. Hardly worthy replacements.

Given KK was not signed so far into the summer, I suspect (yes, without proof) that the Habs did not think anyone would make an offer $6M for 1 year. Perhaps they thought he might get a multi-year offer sheet in the 4-5 million range, which they might (or might not have) have matched. Either way, they had to know there was a high probability KK might not come back, especially given Carolina was actively trying to trade for KK.

Even if all of this is pure bullpoop speculation, bottom line - Habs lost 2 assets and did not replace them with equally valuable assets.

That is 100% on MB.

Tampa was 20 millions over the cap and too strong for the league. No shame there, to be honest.

Bottom line is kk ain’t worth 6m.

Like him or not, Bergy needs to say pass and take the picks and move forward.

He got cap space and picks. He gots needs. He can also trade.

I will say this (and then you can all cheer, because I am done).

I will be surprised if MB matches the offer.

Not because he thinks a 1st and 3rd is more valuable or that he thinks someone in the organization will/can step up to fill the spot.

At $6M, the Habs will be forced to offer at least a $6M qualifying offer to KK next year, if they keep him.

And if you do that, how much do you then have to offer Suzuki next year?

That is really what this is about, not whether to pay KK $6M for 1 year.

the question is who is available? of course I'd like MacKinnon, pretty sure he is not on the market. some say Monahan in CGY could be? don't know who else tbh.

Teams aren’t in a hurry to trade away young centres cause they are hard to find. It has to be an eichel situation. Or you get an Erik staal who is 7 years past his prime

I’m sure the caps will cut salary in other spots to keep a top line centre.
