The Canes don’t even have the cap space for this.
They have to move Gardiner to get it.

pretty sure there is a middle ground between Eichel and Staal - deadpoulet
Eichel is only on the block because of Buffalo. Top tier centre’s in their prime are never traded unless it is a poopty situation. |

If your using capfriendly as the source for this statement, they’ve already put Kotkaniemi on the Canes roster with the sheeted offer. So it would appear that they have just enough cap space. |

I don't think they need a superstar, but somebody to play behind Suzuki. |

So basically Waddell doesn't resign their franchise goaltender who was an absolute stud all season and playoffs and let him go to Detroit for 6M for the next two seasons.
Then absolutely lowball the hell out of Dougie Hamilton and sign Trumpster Tony Deangelo as a desesperate attempt to replace him.
Meanwhile, he signs Freddy Andersen for 4.5M AAV and Anti Raanta for 2M AAV as a 2nd option.
And to top it off, makes a troll offer sheet KK for a one year contract at 6.1M. Whoever gets that boiling hot pocket of a contract will have to deal with a qualifying offer the season after for at least the same amount, that's why KK might very well be gone.
Great offseason Don! - AK27
Franchise goalie???? You mean a kid who struggled in the AHL had a season that is likely an outlier and got something in return and signed good 1a/1B tandem rather than roll the dice on an unproven kid who disn't play great in the playoffs.
I love the revenge. The Canucks offer-sheeted Bqckes one year. The Blues matched and offer sheeted Bernier at a high cost. Bernier got worse after and the Cqnucks cap was eaten up for a few years with that crap contract when they were a Cup contender.
I love this stuff bc it's a total bluff, absokute war strategy. The Canes might lose out on some picks, no biggie. Who knows in a better line up he might bloom.

well, I would take a superstar, but I really like Suzuki I guess. And a young Crosby is not happening so... |

Depends what you are aiming for. If you want a cup while you still have price at the top of his game, I’d argue you need a superstar and let Suzuki settle into the 2nd line role. |

A serious question for Montreal fans:
What are the chances that KK goes to Carolina and has a breakout season? Is there any universe where he can actually live up to that contract? |

I don't think Buffalo would trade Eichel to Montreal and he would be the only option that fits that bill

What a horrible situation the Habs find themselves in. I wanted to see KK try and take steps forward, but the Habs cannot possibly match that horrible deal. KK hasn't even cracked 15 goals in a season and a 6 million dollar offer sheet? Nuts. |

I'd say less than 5%. to the first question.
0% to the second.
every one in here agrees and were saying the same thing. the kid needs time. 2-3 years. the color of the sweater he wears won't change that fact. |

But what centre are you gonna bring in that’s gonna make an impact tho? I guess that’s my point. Like ya, you can trade for a Sam Reinhardt, but Is that gonna pit you over the top? Absolutely not. |

Anything can happen, but I can't realistically see him being worth that contract next year. |
