RIP the concept of the company picnic. Those used to be the best. I worked in a mail room at a law firm during summers as a kid. This sh!t show company picnics or outings to the racetrack were great learning lessons for a 12 year old kid. That and the diminished importance of FM radio are things our youngsters really are deprived of these days.

FM late at night. You could hear everything. Some of the blues players (Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepard) would hear the real southern blues stuff and got hooked. Not just top ten stations. It was so different

Hey Jeremy! This is Genius on Waddells' part! He will not have any problem flipping KK to another team if he acquires him! A lot of teams are weak down the middle! He should get what he spent for him! If Montreal matches, Stevie can help by giving the Habs a 3rd for Armia!

Yeah, you have that. I imagine MB is livid right now! He is short a center and the Canes are trying to pry another one from him! The Canes do not need him, maybe they flip him to Buffalo or NYR for a 1st and a #4-5 prospect???
- HenryHockey

Only other thing I can think of - is they (Canes) think the kid will flourish playing wing instead of center.

As for flipping him, I don’t see it right now. Maybe once he can establish himself some. Most think this is a big overpayment for the kid. Hard to fathom another team wanting to overpay (knowing you are going to have to qualify him at 6.1 in the coming years) at this point.

NYR probably would give Strome for KK. They really want a C NOW! Also Boston is hunting for a C, I am sure they would give the Canes Debrusk and a 2nd for KK. A 1-yr window may be all Boston has right now!

Not getting every song on demand was a huge plus. When a song came on, you had to listen and really sink into it.

Late on Saturday some stations would do a whole album side. Rush, Pink Floyd, even Meatloaf had story sequences written into their stuff. Totally different to sit and listen. (Meatloaf had stuff written based in part on Neverland stories). I regret buying so many cassette singles in the 90s. That was h th e start of music a la carte. Mix tapes, then iPods and then boom. 3 minute attention span.

I can’t imagine KK ask next year. Negotiations start at 6.1. This is a weird one. I guess we’ll see who blinks first

Can a team that offer sheet a player turn around and trade that player? I know if Montreal matched they wouldn't be allowed to trade him for a year. I can't find anything that says the team that did the offer sheet if they can trade him or not.

That’s a really good question. I have to think there would be an investigation if they tried to

Yeah, I too see that the original club can not trade him for 1 year if matched....but there is no stipulation on the team that presented the offer sheet. Waddel only has to rid himself of $1.5M+ from the cap by the start of the season to be cap compliant. Not bad....

Henry Hockey, no on the Petey offer sheet. Not gonna deny his talent and what he would bring. Just not Stevie's style, and who knows what any of those picks could turn into with our scouts and Y being the ones making them.

They certainly should, the Canucks are in no position to match especially if somebody offer sheeted Hughes at the same time. That would be off the charts and really get things heated up throughout the league. Do it Stevie

The fact is Elias Pettersen has super star qualities you don't get every draft year. I would do it but I realize Stevie Y is a very honest methodical gentleman so I doubt he does this. The other thing regarding Kotkaniemi is that despite his low point totals the kid has jam and I have no doubt he will turn into something good. He is so young but he has heart and he has skill. Just needs time.

I believe Hughes isn’t able to be offer sheeted.

It is essentially a 4 year deal with 6.1AAV. The plus side for the canes is if he sucks they can walk away from him and not be strapped with a huge hit year after year.

Cannot offer sheet Hughs, he is a 10.2 C RFA , different rules for him.

You can't get enough lip stick on this pig to make it look any different than what it is.

This is a suicide mission by the Carolina owner for the single purpose of damaging Bergeron personally and the Canadiens as an organization.

When you try to apply reason you discover that there is no logic to what the Canes have done. This is a stealth missile during Holy Week. As teams are trying to finalize their rosters heading into training camp. The purpose of the attack is to cause as much chaos as possible.

Clearly the Canes decided to pay the cost of the attack up front. Does any of it make sense? No!

But, was it worth doing? The Canes and most other GM's are roaring with laughter and sheer delight over the knot that has been tied around Bergeron's plans.

It should be noted that KK could sign a multi-year deal in season for less of a cap hit then the $6.1M. Apparently KK wanted to make the jump to the Finn-friendly Canes and if he wishes to stay there and thrives there, I could see him signing a more team-friendly multi-year deal.

They could. And end up being short a couple draft picks for the 1 year gamble. I think I’m trying too hard to make sense of this. Feels like the first time I saw a Ren and Stimpy episode. I Just need to sit back and accept the bizarre world for what it is

No doubt, Stevie Y is perfect in Detroit. Not if but when they are challenging every yr. ..... But, like most teams I guess, the draft has brought some drama. Questioning Stevie Y on his drafts probably isn't wise but Seider and now Edvinsson are/were at least interesting. Same with moving up to grab Cossa instead of the near consensus top goalie in Wellstadt.

As a guy who follows the USHL closely I love the Mastrosimone kid, bursting with IQ and will and very much like this yrs pick in rd 2 of Dman Buium. Big kid, nicely balanced skater who can skate it out, inside outs/outside ins Dmen and can roof backhanders from the paint .....

Little tidbit on forward Chase Bradley taken in rd 7 in 2020. Kid lived in STL playing HS hockey before he played USHL. When his HS season was over or for tournaments his mom would load him in the family car on Friday, drive to NJ to play a couple weekend games for AAA NJ Colonials, drive back and the kid was back in school Monday morning. That's how the kid plays hockey too. Anything to play, anything to win. Bet Stevie Y knew of this before drafting him.

As far as Carolina can never have enough centers and it seems it wasn't an immediate position of need but in a couple yrs it might be.

Aho

Trocheck (UFA next yr)

Staal (UFA in 2 yrs)

KK

Stepan (UFA next yr)

Seth Jarvis in the system.

Or KK to CLB for Laine? Carolina gets the scoring winger they need and Laine gets the centerman he needs in Aho or Trocheck and the Finn GM gets a centerman he dearly needs. ...... MTL trades the picks they got for KK and trades for Dvorak to play 2C and AZ adds to the pile of picks they already have. Everyone happy?

We'll find out soon enough if Carolina is playing checkers or chess but it could be a handful of clubs end up better off for this offer sheet.

Thanks Henry, the Canucks are #26 on my follow list, lol. I know Pettersen is available for an offer sheet for sure. Despite living in BC my AHFO hockey leafue of year 43 starting in October is my priority. The Canucks just seem to get their fans excited and then just start another 10 game losing streak. I am on your site because I own Vrana, Zadina, Suter, Stetcher and hoping to trade for Hronek and Bertuzzi in the near future.

Nice drop in. Thanks for that. Edvinsson reportedly is 1-2 inches taller than he was in draft day. Funny how much these kids still change.
