I debate the 'quality' of depth, but my point is, with an OS to Petey, you have to ask yourself if you can build around him or end up stagnating like TML with their Big 4. If it's going to prevent the team from being able to sign Boeser, Hoglander, et. al, then maybe you move on from Petey, realize that you have an opportunity to get that McDavid or Crosby-lite generational talent in Bedard and start over. Tying up your cap to match an offer sheet that's designed to screw you over is bad business... Then again, this is JB we're talking about and probably will sign Petey for whatever the theoretical OS might have been anyways. - DariusKnight

To be fair, this is all hypothetical anyways, because Petey isn't going to sign an OS unless some team decides to shell out a contract that's worth more than whoever's got the biggest number right now for 8 years and nobody has that amount of capspace available at this point. |

Here’s an old but very interesting article I came across from (trigger warning) Canucks Army regarding offer sheets during the Gillis era.
https://canucksarmy.com/2...enn-offer-sheet-anecdote/
Say what you will about Gillis but he was always looking for inventive ways to obtain players. I heard about the Jamie Benn offer sheet but hadn’t heard about a possible Shea Weber offer sheet ($14M/1year) back in 2013. Crazy stuff.

Im pretty sure Carol mentioned they are at some point recently - neem55
With other leagues starting, I am guessing that it won't be happening. Plus borders still pretty well closed. |

An interesting tidbit on the Kotkaniemi signing
Puck Pedia: Next offseason either the Carolina Hurricanes or Montreal Canadiens could file for Club Elected salary arbitration for Kotkaniemi and request 85 percent of his current salary. That would come in at $5.185 million. They would retain his rights and wouldn’t have to send him a $6.1 million qualifying offer. |

A team like Ottawa could quite easily do something similar as what Gillis was considering and what Carolina did with Kotkaniemi, offer a 1 year, inflated salary.
They have lots of good young talent, capspace and are looking for a player of his calibre. |

They could drive up the price . If Ottawa did do it I would turn around and drive up the price of Tkachuk and in two years Stutzle and next year Norris.
I have heard Ottawa are looking into Eichel and that sort of brings me back to when Canucks got Miller. You ask "Is it the wrong time for that type of move?"

$10,276,830 - ∞ 4 First Round Picks
Anything above that is probably the only way that Van is going to have trouble matching it.
I would whole take 4 firsts for Petey. |

Not probably, he literally said he would. No team in the league has the balls nor the means to OS Petey over 10 mil, 0 chance he leaves Van. |

I heard that many times on here about there was no way Luongo would retire, he would go on LTIR. |

The thing is, Ottawa has 28 million is capspace and can sign those guys, Canucks will be tight to try manouever, IMO |

I just read minutes ago Ott wants to do a bridge deal with Tkachuk 3 x 3 . I doubt they will offer Petey 10 mil +.
Unreliable source, but wild if true. |

I would take the 1sts as well, but Benning has sorta gone in this year, for a playoff run. |

I get that and would gladly take their first round pick for the next four years but I would still force them to overpay on their RFAs for the next 10 years.
