Both sides have been too concerned with the optics for too long. It looks like they're moving past that in order get Eichel out of here and maximize the return - Hank Balling
This is something that could have been done literally months ago. |

Sure but teams were always going to want to see Eichel play before ponying up |

So then why wait months to figure that out? - kingcong39
Probably in the hope of not having to bring Eichel back around and the media circus that would follow
The bonus of this plan is that he won't be around until after Christmas and thus no one will have to answer questions until then |

You hit on it, took him that long to figure it out and accept it.

How does the thought in bold coincide with the following?

So they delayed on making yet another decision? |

This works out pretty nicely for the Sabres.
Rather than have media follow Eichel and the Sabres around for 6.5 months, they avoid all that until the Olympics where Eichel can show his stuff. He's moved at the draft while Don Granato gets to open training camp without talking about Eichel drama.
It's kinda perfect |

The answer is yes, they caved. It was stupid, they look the worse for it. Whatever, move on. Hopefully the surgery is a success and the return is astronomical to justify them eating poop again. |

I view it more as making a decision, then failing to execute it. This is really their option of last resort. High risk move, hope this works out.

Why would we trade an injured eichel?
He's not even around the franchise bringing down the young guys.
How much worse can this saga actually get?
Maybe we start hot and he plays for the Sabres next season and beyond?
Hope he gets another look in the blue and gold...

It's perfect because they delayed the circus for 4 to 5 months, when the circus will be right back in town until the 2022 draft?
You have an odd definition of the word perfect.
Also, the 2022 Olympics are in February, but the report claimed he would be ready sometime in December.
The Sabres are going to hold him out for the month of January? |

Why would they wait multiple months to figure out they can't get a good return for Eichel unless he has surgery? |

First result was trading eichel while injured?
His value of top 5 young nhl center needs to be reestablished.
Playing well and showing he's over the injury will bring back a much much larger return.
Probably the kagm plan all along.
Healthy eichel = franchise changing return. |

Kind of like how Kucherov was physically unable to play until game one of the playoffs and not one day sooner
I do think this is pretty good. Eichel can prove his stuff without it being a full year distraction |

Their decision was to try and pawn the injury risk off on another team while still garnering a quality return.
That plan didn't work out too well. |

How did they cave, nobody has a idea what is happening. He could be back on the ice skating and working out in December after either Surgery. Doesn't mean he is cleared. |

I've mentioned this before.
Losing this season is a huge priority.
Eichel or his return will only prohibit losing
Punt, and get the return next year.
Add the top 5 pick
The sam pick
And probably 1 or 2 1st round picks
Profit.
They do not need to sell tickets ect...
The pandemic solved their marketing issue .
It's about the future..

This is far from a given. It was clearly not KA's plan all along.

It seems clear that this was not remotely what Adams wanted to happen, and it is a last resort, as you called it earlier. |

I'm sure if the "right" offer was available, sure , take the offer.
It's kinda like bruce smith and his preseason injuries .
Skip camp, skip the early part of the season, aim for the Olympics.
Also, havnt they been debating the surgery procedure?

They said no replacement
He is now getting replacement
We caved to his demands. And when he is cleared is inconsequential for me. I wouldn't let him around the team either way and we're tanking as is. |
