I am not sure if this was discussed but maybe, just maybe, this has nothing to do with the Sabres or Eichel. Maybe it is about the insurance companies covering the contract and the surgery?

Two issues that I could see as possibilities:

One - what about the issue of the company which insures Eichel's contract? Since NHL contracts are guaranteed and my understanding, are insured, maybe the insurance company of record (for the contract) was comfortable with one surgery and not the other and therefore said no to guaranteeing the contract? Could be wrong on the insurance and the guaranteed part but I think about this scenario.

Secondly - the insurance company that would cover the proposed neck surgeries. They could be holding things up because they do not like one versus the other and have not given authorization? I have had many conversations with my insurance providers and have had to jump through more hoops than I wish to, in order to get coverage for my must have treatments. Jack's is elective so he can play hockey.

Just saying that this might not even be a Sabres and Eichel thing. Competing Insurance Company thing.
