Before things get too hectic, I have a personal update – this will be my last week covering the Bills.
This community has made me feel so welcome these past two years and I can’t say enough about how much that’s meant to me. Even 2,000 miles from California I felt at home in WNY
This sucks, he was a huge upgrade over Rodak - Stripes77
Wonder who takes his place.

If OLO is not very good defensively why was he trusted by both Ralph and Granato to play OT, I mean he is no Selke but he can play 3v3 where you do have to cover your own end and be able to skate some. - GilPerreault11
Very minimal defense in the OT....

You have control of Olofsson for this season and next, as next season is his last as an RFA before he becomes a UFA.
You're the Sabres GM: What is your long term plan with Olofsson? - kingcong39
It's the Sabres:
Plan A: Play him too high in the lineup and inflate his production, then overpay on a long term extension.
Plan B: his production is similar, he misses some time again, so they hesitate and give a 1 year deal.
Plan C: Ventura has a real voice and they deal him at the deadline.

Olofsson does skate well, but not consistently enough. I wish he would use his speed more.
If you get a 1st round pick for him, you're turning a 7th round pick into a 1st in a strong draft, which sounds like reaping benefit from drafting Olofsson to me.
Overall, you have a plan which doesn't involve walking him to UFA status, and that was the point I was making with Ullmark.
Ideally, for me, I'd make a decision on him now and not wait until next offseason as I prefer to not wait until there is only one year of team control left. - kingcong39
Very respectable and reasonable post. 🤝
I'd personally like to see what he does without other top talent around him.
Seems like the perfect year for that stance ...
I'm more of a pp goals count the same as non pp goals.
Sure, he needs to work on his 5 x 5 , but he's still learning the nhl game ...
If not, other players can be 5 x 5 guys. Let him be the pp guy. Especially if he sniffs 30... 18 pp and 12 5x5.
Someone's gonna feed him the biscuit down low... |

Or, you play and develop the 7th round pick to a Calder candidate, make him a top 6 forward pay him in the 3 millions a year and have the option of keeping that increased valued player or trade that increased valued player. for much more than a 7th round pick. Of course, they could have played him on the 4th line and all the OLO haters would hate him but just for different reasons. Now, they had OLO helping Jack achieve his best year and increase his value as a trade commodity. But, of course Skinner, who was supposed to help give a 2nd line and not lead the team to 40 goals and 5th worst team in the league again with only one line as they did in his 40 goal year. But Skinner...

May I ask "what's too high in the lineup"
Who's the #1 center? Who's better than olo, jeffry skimmer 😀?
I think the asplund mitts timber is our 2B /3A line. Keep them together. ATM
So that probably puts cozensons at the #1C spot?
Skimmer - cozens- olofsson
Would be my guess...
If his production is similar, they should give him the key to the city, all he did was ride Jackie's coattails.. 🤔

If it wasn't obvious before, it should be painfully obvious now just how much every single team and their fans massively overestimate and over value their prospects.
It's crystal clear in Eichel trade scenarios and we definitely have posters here who talk like most of the Sabres prospects are going to turn into quality NHL players, when the reality is quite different.
It's interesting how the NHL is like this while the NBA is not. - kingcong39
Sabres have a middle-6 winger with a killer shot whom they selected in the 7th round.
7th rounders are usually picked for one trait that gives them an outside chance at making the NHL. The Sabres have one. Now people want to get rid of him? Because why exactly?
I don't get it. |

Good post:
But ralph ruined skimmer and dahlin....
Olofsson was also coached by ralph, of course that's different. |

I think the problem with Olo is that he is a complimentary player. What will he be without Jack? At this point his draft position doesn't matter. I have no problem moving him in the right deal.

But that kind of goes against 39 argument that 7th round picks and 1st overalls, or 2nds, are not on a different level and are equal. So developing OLO should matter. OLOSMATTER

If the Sabres move him what will the PP look like, who will be even a threat even strength on the wing? 3 million is not a lot of money for a 20+ goal scorer.

🙂
I get it, 39 is a sammer. Its really hard to back a player for 7 years and see the mediocre return both of us predicted.
Olo picked 179 picks later was a steal. A gem. A find.
The other guy, not so much. Especially when drystatl was there for the taking.
The former 23 ...... it's not his fault where he got picked 😀
Like a player couldn't put in more effort and become a better player.
It's not jamarcus Russell 's fault either, nor ryan leaf 😉 |

if they don't move him and teams just man cover olo because he is the only weapon on the PP what will our PP look like |

I don't know if they will have the luxury of leaving a guy in the high slot all of the time. He was open a lot because teams worried about Jack beating someone one-on-one. I don't hate him at all - I think the jury is out as to what he will be like without Jack. Will he even score 20 anymore? |

Maybe give him a year without Jack before you string him up by his balls?

A couple guys on this team will see top line and top PP minutes and put up 50 points. I won't be giving them keys to the city.

The entire powerplay will need to be re-imagined without Reinhart looking for tips, Eichel drawing two men into the left halfwall and Risto either dishing from the point or screening |

No other Nhl coach thought of that last season?
Yes , eichel takes 2 guys, so maybe it's a concern, moving forward.
I think olo's shot , skating and ice awareness is completely under appreciated. He's gonna find some open looks .... IMO |

Mitts on the high wall, Cozens in front, OLO on his wing spot, Dahlin the QB and whoever else on the point, Bryson maybe. |
