As soon as Eichel opened his mouth at his end of year zoom it made Adams job twice as hard with trading him.

This is far from a given. It was clearly not KA's plan all along.
- Lunaion

You really think kagm had 1 plan?

Come on, give him some credit ... Guys gotta have a couple different ideas ....

Plan A
Trade an injured eichel for a ton of assets and nothing less

Plan B
Let him sit out, get surgery, punt the assets, get a top 5 pick. Trade him for a ton of assets

Plan C
Get your franchise center healthy, have him fall in love with the game again, try and keep him.

They said no replacement
He is now getting replacement

We caved to his demands. And when he is cleared is inconsequential for me. I wouldn't let him around the team either way and we're tanking as is.

- QuinnFan

Who said he was getting the replacement surgery, has that been confirmed.

Adams could have caved to other teams and accepted a poor return and Sabreland would have went bonkers

Am interested in hearing official news

I have been corrected as I thought was fusion at first, the time frame isn't there. It would be 6 months for Fusion, no way December would be in the realm of possibility I guess.

So Eichel will play in the Olympics and then not a game with the Sabres after that?
- kingcong39

Maybe

If eichel is that angry about his situation in Buffalo, let's work together to resolve the issue jackie.

Showcase yourself in the Olympics.

I'm not sure how a healthy player could then sit out, unless we are surely trading him and need him to be %100 healthy.

I'm sure there's a few options, including playing eichel on the road , there are 0 home February games - credit baller

It's funny to me that all your outcomes are happy endings. The Sabres risk just went up tenfold. Waiting to make this decision increased it.

This was not the only option though. Playing hard ball here was definitely feasible, we hold his rights for 5 seasons. They balked.

You're 100% right about time will tell, maybe the return is astonishing. But how much should their word be worth? We can split hairs but they lost credibility today.

Maybe the meeting they had the other day was actually a medical arb meeting and the arbitrator sided with Eichels camp. If that is the case the Sabres HAD to allow it

IDK, Nobody does.

Just because they said he could be skating by December, doesn't mean he's cleared to play, and he could be skating and training a bit by December with Fusion surgery. Even with the TDR he probably isn't cleared for contract until the 5 month mark.

Why would they wait multiple months to figure out they can't get a good return for Eichel unless he has surgery?
- kingcong39

Its Similar to selling a used vehicle as is.

You would be willing to take a little less, but if you know you can repair the vehicle and get more, you look for offers as is, then fix the car.

More teams would clearly want to test drive a shiny eichel.

That's where retaining salary comes in.......

You want everyone to take a look at the new paint job, and make the financing reasonable.

I'm a serious homer ☝️ optimistic sabres fan

Giant midget.

I'm thinking the offers were not even close to what's acceptable for eichel.

Risk vs. Reward.

You're probably getting the 4 assets for a healthy eichel
2 assets as is... broken eichel

And how does that help the team? It doesn't.

We can all sit here and pretend to know what is going on, and speculate, and have our opinions on things we know nothing about, but this option (playing hardball) does NOT help the team at all.

Getting Jack to the point where they can trade him for a nice return is all that should matter. I don't care who supposedly "caved" (did it ever occur to you that this was a mutual decision? One hand washes the other?). I only care about the assets we get for him, and if by getting him healthy maybe those assets get better.

I think we would've heard if a medical grievance had even been filed nevertheless decided and with him. Being that it's medical, I will admit ignorance though, so you're right. Don't know.

this is the quote from shawn simson's twitter:

"Hearing Eichel could have surgery very soon, and December would be the earliest return. The asking price is extremely high at this point, between 4 and 6 pieces. With Brisson now repping this process will get moving."

'hearing' and 'could' are two operative words...not hearing anything from any other "insider"

just culled this from a quick search of both:

How long does it take to recover from neck disc replacement surgery?
Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement Recovery Time

Most people are able to return to everyday activities, such as light work and driving, within a week of having surgery. A full recovery typically takes 6 to 12 weeks, when heavier lifting and more vigorous activities may be resumed.

How long is recovery from neck fusion surgery?
It may take 4 to 6 weeks to get back to your usual activities. How long it takes depends on what kind of surgery you had. Your doctor may advise you to work with a physiotherapist to strengthen the muscles around your neck and back.
