Olofsson will be an RFA with arbitration rights next offseason. He would be a UFA the year after if he does take the arbitration route.

He will also be 27 years old next offseason.

Without counting the return for Eichel we have Asplund, Thompson, Peterka, Quinn, Rosen, Poltapov, Kisakov, Huglen, Murray waiting in the wings.

Moving Olofsson when you aren’t going to be competitive for another two years will be better than overpaying him when you are going to have several players coming in that can at the very least do what he can do at 5v5

We need quality over quantity at this point.

A couple guys on this team will see top line and top PP minutes and put up 50 points. I won't be giving them keys to the city.
- Lunaion

Could you at least ask for the keys back from skimmer?

50 points on this team for 3 million.

Maybe an extension, not the keys....

Goaloffson's gonna get 20 goals unless he's injured....
Kinda why he has that nickname.

The nitpicking around here is completely understandable, its 4 of 8 seasons in dead last place.

Finding fault in the 7th round gem, seems a bit unreasonable ☝️

This is a very reasonable post pegsville.

I could see a tdl move.

A playoff team adding this guy for a prorated 3 million this year and 3 next. Jackpot johnny

Maybe give him a year without Jack before you string him up by his balls?

I must have missed where I said anything negative about him.

Pegs response was very good. I know you like baiting people with the 7th round gem line, but he's not a prospect any more.

Also agree with Cong, they should make a call on him before next off-season. They are walking into a trap of their own making, again. In this case, I sell high at the deadline (or now).

I wonder if it was good asset management by developing a 7th round asset into something more valuable to the team or tradeable. In my estimation it was, and it was a good attempt to try to have a 2nd line with our 9 million dollar wonder on that line since one line the year before led to 5th worst in the league. Doing the same thing over again blag, blah blah

I also agreed with pegsville.

They should absolutely make a decision prior to the 2022-23 season.

2 shortened seasons of 50ish games, is still a borderline new nhl player.

So , his draft position (7th round) shouldnt ever be discussed in the future. We're talking about a guy that was on the all .rookie team and 7th in Calder votes. Just a year ago ☝️

Just turned 26 this month correct?
Kinda prospecty still IMO.

this would be the SMART thing to do for sure, but then again NOBODY ever accused the Sabres organization of being smart, so in the end we sign him for 5 years 30Mil..

"Finding fault in the 7th round gem, seems a bit unreasonable"

I'm not playing this game with you. At 26, his draft spot is irrelevant to his next contract/trade. His age is actually a concern, if you're going to extend.

It’s honestly funny that the Cody Eakin fan club accuses people of “hating” when they repetitively, and obsessively bring up Sam Reinhart and Jeff Skinner all day, like they have for 2 straight years

Just really odd behavior

His next contract while everyone is saying he won't produce next year? So what is there really to worry about except his reduced trade value?

The real question should be, is he a player for the future to play with the young guys, or is he someone you have on your roster for the time being?

If he is the latter and you get a good offer for him, you should take it.

If you think he is worth keeping for the next 4 years then you don't mind his stats diminishing this next season (if that is the case) because he won't cost as much to keep.

🙂

I get it, 39 is a sammer. Its really hard to back a player for 7 years and see the mediocre return both of us predicted.

Olo picked 179 picks later was a steal. A gem. A find.

The other guy, not so much. Especially when drystatl was there for the taking.

The former 23 ...... it's not his fault where he got picked 😀

Like a player couldn't put in more effort and become a better player.

It's not jamarcus Russell 's fault either, nor ryan leaf 😉

What's really funny is the Tyler Myers fan club - you, and the Jeff Skinner, Reinhart Fan Club and Risto Hate Club has Myers long gone, Skinner rated as the worst contract in the NHL by many and he has fallen on his face, Reinhart traded for less than many of you wished and signed for his 3rd? bridge deal and Risto got traded for a 13th overall pick, a 2nd and a playa. Those of us who were on the other side of the cheering were right and you are holding your peckers. Now that is funny

I can't figure out why anyone bothers responding. You know the only reason he mentions where he was drafted is so he can then bring up Sam being drafted 2nd and rant about him.

He doesn't actually like Olofsson that much, it's just that Olofsson isn't Reinhart.

It's truly odd

I think the opposite. He's going to get a ton of ice time and, as a result, produce.

Hang on, let me use you and Boss's logic to prove i'm right

Tyler Myers signed a huge contract, therefore he's really good and I was right.

Man, easy to be right all the time

Boss is fun. He's at least half-joking when he drops the 7th round lines. Guessing where he actually stands on these things is part of the fun.

That's fine, you may not like linking olo's draft position to his play on the ice. I do.... he's a steal.

Makes absolutely 0 sense to not be thrilled with his production. 7th round pick working his way to the nhl, not on his father or brothers last name.

Guy plays 116 games and scores 78 points.
He just turned 26 this month.

Now his age is a concern? 5 years brings a sniper to 31/32 years old. That's not old.

Punt 👊

9 million vs 3 million

Can you figure out the difference?
