I know I'm not the only one thinking this. Most likely candidates: VO and Mitts benefit from big minutes and put up numbers...and then need new contracts.
- Lunaion

Need new contracts at the perfect time to overpay them when their minuted immediately get reduced the following season, as does their production and their value as players.

The time is now for them to commit to Mittelstadt and Olofsson, if they believe in them, instead of waiting due to the concerns you accurately raised.

The really humorous part is the one player they have committed to: Tage Thompson 😅

Yup

Are these guys place holders for the kids or are they players you want playing with the kids (players drafted last year, this year, and the ones in next years and maybe 2023 draft).

If they are place holders you should trade them IF you get a really good offer, if they are players you want around, you should pay them now.

Problem is both Mitts and Olofsson have some big question marks coming into this season.

The bold means it's an ideal time to get a deal with term and a reasonable to value AAV signed.

Or do what was already suggested: Play them big minutes and trade them at the trade deadline.

That won't be easy with the Sabres cap situation and having to reach the cap floor.

The cap floor...I cannot believe that is going to be an issue this season

Good post stripes and I agree with both you and 39.
Extend olo and mitts before having to pay bigger.

See josh Allen.

Problem is, has management seen enough of either of these guys? With / without ralph
Are we gun shy as an organization after handing out terrible contracts?

Wish we could front load some contracts to get to the floor now. Make them more appealing down the road.

I could see mitts and dahlin get some good $ ,just prior to the season. Probably have a deal in place for dahlin already. Waiting for the publicity.

Olo , is gonna get some good playing time/ points and could really turn that into a trade deadline advantage for the Sabres. Sniperville....

Would you offer Mitts the '16-'22 Couturier contract based on last season with Don?

I think I'd take a chance on that

All indications at this point are that the Sabres don't want to do that and are not interested.

- Hank Balling

If he had shown more defensively, probably.

He hasn't, so no, as that's too much AAV.

I'd do 3 years at maybe $3M as I believe that'd leave them with 2 years left of team control.

Mitts is a player with a " history" of committment issues. Pull ups and possibly being overweight.
Maybe forenite issues too. Something was definitely up, jbitts would have given him every chance to succeed.

Too bad we change a coach or gm every season. Nobody really gets to know these guys for a few years.

Josh allen 3 years = big pay = same coach and gm

Jeff skimmer = 1 year = big pay = new coach and gm

Didn't he have a shoulder issue like Sam Bennett who also couldn't do a single pull-up?

The Sabres rarely take chances on creating value contracts but it could look like a spectacular contract in 3 years. Or he could be Tyler Ennis. The time to take a chance is now though because bridging him further will take them down that old familiar Samson road

Based on what he's done so far, that seems....risky. I'd bridge him without a second thought.

I’d go 5+ years on all three of Dahlin, Joker, Mitts.

Worst case scenario for Dahlin is you can trade him for the 14th overall pick and a second rounder a few years from now.

Joker should come in at a good AAV on a 5 year deal leading him to be useful the way d-men contracts are going to be a sought after commodity as well if worse comes to worse

Mitts seems like a solid bet as a 3C if anything and with the cap going up it’s a worthwhile risk

You have control of Olofsson for this season and next, as next season is his last as an RFA before he becomes a UFA.

You're the Sabres GM: What is your long term plan with Olofsson?

- kingcong39

Trade that MF'er with Jack Friggin Eichel
Retained 50% of Olo.
Throw in CantSkate28 for 50% retained as well.
Take a $7m cap dump

All problems solved by getting Eichel's Tittie Partner out as fast as possible.

Good comparable, seem's like Bennett had weight issues and some questions about his effort.

Not sure about fortnite.
Bennett definitely wasn't demoted to the "A" by the gm that drafted him with his 1st nhl pick ever.

So pullups really wasn't the only point of my post☝️

I absolutely agree with taking a chance on extending a good young player before they peak. Someone who's been a leader on and off the ice.

We always overspend on what guys did elsewhere. Different systems , no personal information.

Mitts had some issues...
Olo has a great trade deadline contract

I'd give dahlin 8 years. If you like what you've seen and heard from past management/ coaches ect.

I'd pay cozensons too. He has "it". Long term.

Olo for sure , if you like his work ethic/attitude ect.

5 is a tough option. It only buys 1 year of UFA. I wouldn't put that on the table, personally.

I'd consider Joker at the right AAV, but likely end up bridging all 3.
