If the Flames enter a rebuild, he'll gtfo himself. |

That being said, the Pacific better be as weak as we hope it is, because the Flames are not a good team right now. |

Come on...
Here's the source of the "hot seat" rumors.
https://thehockeywriters....l-sutter-hot-seat-report/
That from a Sports Illustrated article from Adam Proteau.
The entire team is on the hot seat but the premise of the article was firing Ward and hiring Sutter was meant to provide instant energy and the Flames suddenly be good enough to make the playoffs. To me Sutter will have free reign this season. If the team is as bad as last season, it'll be a gut, not a rebuild and anything and anyone will be on the hot seat, management down. |

Promoting Sutter to GM is the way to go if we want the Flames to suck for the next 10 years. |

Not saying it's what I would do. But both guys are in the system already. Sutter only has 1 year left after this on his contract so it gives them a year to see what he can do this time around and doesn't cost them much, if anything, more than they're already spending. It's just what I can see happening. Tre should be the one on the hot seat, not Sutter at this time. Flames fans have been calling for a core change or GM change for how long now? I think Sutter would be a change in both. And Muller is a competent coach. |

Good thing the Flames ALWAYS have a strong start to the season.
I am at least happy we will be punching faces if we are not winning. Has been pretty painful to watch them have no fight in close games. |

Sutter will do a good job this year. He took a 2004 Flames team to winning a stanley cup minus the (frank)ing fact the goal was in game 6 was...

If Sutter gets fired them it better be because he was standing up for Treliving when his job is on the line.
I've lost track of how many coaches Treliving has hired, it's almost as many of goalies. |

I'm bored. Need hockey to start soon! |

Sutter is not in the proverbial 'hot seat'. Treliving's reign will end before Sutter's. Sutter's hiring and the off-season deals are likely Treliving's final cards.
JB and the ownership group should have a plan prepared for rapid implementation when Treliving's tenure ends. I am uncertain if there is a specific replacement in mind, but I speculate this next GM will retain Sutter for the remainder of the season. The new GM won't want to waste his first card firing Sutter.
However I so see two very unlikely reasons Sutter could be fired. Firstly, an untimely and prolonged loosing streak occurs. If such a streak results from players 'quitting' on Sutter, I can foresee Sutter being fired. Secondly, something may occur or arise from his past that gets him roasted in the Twittersphere and tarnished by its Cancel Culture. These two reasons could happen to any coach and certainly do not classify Sutter as being in the hot seat. |

This summer Treliving said "you don't trade away good players"
Most expected blockbuster trades, but nothing happened.
Could be that Treliving wants to improve through the draft, and making better free agent signings.. you don't give up any assets for either.
Monahan might be soft & not ideal for Sutter hockey - but since they failed to get Sillinger, seems like they'll hold onto him for now. |

You got that right Monohan is soft and at the draft you could tell by the facial expression he was pretty upset Sillinger went one spot before. Now the Flames have Fox 2.0 |

I dunno about that, at least from what he's saying, sounds like he wants to be here:
“I want to play in the NHL. I want to play with the Flames… I’m not exactly sure how long that’ll be but I definitely want to do that… I definitely loved talking to the Flames before the draft. I thought the whole staff was really nice, enjoyed my interviews with them. I did have a sense that they liked me and I liked them. It was a good fit and I’m really happy right now.”

rmul come on... that's not what he's saying, you could still be satisfied with Coronato, even if they had Sillinger ahead of Coronato.. given what's going on with Monahan's injuries, and Sillinger's tougher style... it's pretty obvious the Flames had Sillinger ranked higher based on how they acted on draft day.. |

Management failed to reign in Sutter and his desire to win those meaningless games. If Sutter wants to tell his team to play their guts out after getting eliminated from playoff qualification, ok no problem, make sure he ices a squad with a lot of scrubs off the AHL roster and tell them to "play to win".

I believe Tre was given this year to right the ship. If no playoffs this year Sutter takes over GM and Muller will be head coach.

What are you talking about... that wasn't Treliving's quote... it's Coronato's... expressing how happy he was to be drafted by the Flames. My response was geared towards the fact that he's not necessarily Fox 2.0 just because he's American and going to University...

I'd rather have Treliving replicate the NJD to TBL trade for Coleman than I would for Eichel. Tampa has a handful of top 6 draft picks, and the rest of their roster has guys that were picked all over the place.
When you compare Coleman to Mangiapane - their cost per goal stat, is pretty much equal. (going off Coleman's last contract). We talk about trading Gaudreau before his last season before he becomes a UFA - there's other players in that same boat on other teams.
I think Tre should trade our 1st round pick, so we have a higher quality roster.
If I was GM, I'd be calling about these players:
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/erik-haula
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/adrian-kempe
https://www.capfriendly.c...layers/oliver-bjorkstrand
This list of players, from an excel sheet I made, produce at similar rates, and we could slide them into our $3.5m in cap space (this is just a raw copy/paste without considering their individual circumstances). These guys will all be UFAs, the data might be off for a few of them, so deal with it:
Sheary, Conor
Suter, Pius
Ritchie, Nick
Wennberg, Alexander
Vatrano, Frank
Hyman, Zach
Järnkrok, Calle
Rust, Bryan
Brown, Connor
Iafallo, Alex
Stephenson, Chandler
Donskoi, Joonas
Smith, Craig
Gallagher, Brendan
Granlund, Mikael

The Flames missed the playoffs by 2 points...the only meaningless games they had were against the Canucks who were an absolute disaster.
Impossible to blow all those games
