you'd need to have 3 defencemen on the ice for that to work |

can't trade him for a year, you can sign him longterm after january, qualifying offer has to be at least 6,1 million next summer |

Cannot trade for 1 year, I think they cannot sign long-term until after January or something.

in any business, MB would be fired for the KK mess and the position the Habs are in right now.
and after the last draft and their decision with the 1st round pick....they should all be fired, don't even need to go back in time. |

but it doesn't have to be the annual average if he's offered multiple years, right?

he also picked Sergachev and Caufield. Guhle seems to be tracking well. they've done a bit better with the first rounders of late.

only if they qualify next summer, they can extend him after January if both parties agree on a new deal at a lower value |

Eric Engels in a radio interview on the FAN 590 just reported ...Dvorak / no match Kk
He believes the habs are leaning toward taking the picks and letting KK walk. He feels the habs have identified a primary trade target in Christian Dvorak, they are trying to work out a trade. He says the Coyotes are trying to shed salary and are very interested in acquiring picks.

that's the long term problem. say you match, and KK takes a step fwd... like 15 goals, 25 assists. improves his faceoffs, defensive awareness... you're stuck with that ridiculous baseline salary. he's not going to sign for 7 or 8 years at that point.

nope QA has to be at least 100% of the previous salary, but they can agree to terms on a longer contract

noice. if they can acquire Dvorak, and then the Coyotes move to Quebec, I'll be a happy camper.

question is does he hold more value next summer to trade him then the OS compensation from the Jerks. |

He can sign at any yearly value he wants to agree to with the Habs for any term (as of January).
But if he has not signed a contract and the Habs want to retain his rights (ie: so he does not become a UFA), they will need to offer him 1 year @ $6.7M to retain those rights.

I say best case scenario is around 6 for multiple years, doubt he would ever take a paycut, not with the habs.

player can agree to 85% of his previous salary if he realllly wants to stay but players never do take that route. |

it's a no-brainer only if you consider that he'll never become a very good 2nd line center.
