Pretty sure Evans met the expectations the team had for him last year.

While expectations for KK are bigger.

And rightfully so.

- Scabeh

well there you go. he didn't meet expectations. if he did MB would already have matched.

I'm going to look like a homer saying this, but I don't care.

There should be a rule of a 3 years contract minimum for an offer-sheet. Otherwise it's a bit ridiculous.

Of course.

The question now is, will he meet expectations in the future?

That's pretty much the question Bergevin has to answer now. Making the wrong call here would be pretty damn bad.

what poor return?!? do you expect kk to get a better package (a 1st and 3rd) on the trade market?
- fidopro

Late 1st and late 3rd?

Yes.

I get what you're saying but it's not like offersheets are happening so much we need another rule to prevent some from happening.

yeah, perhaps GMs would be less reluctant to use offer sheets and it wouldn't be considered as this "unwritten rule" to not use them if the outilnes were better defined.

but for the future, let say 3 years down the road, that gives plenty of time and options to MB to fill the hole. no? for the upcoming season, it's a wash. any center, yes even Perreault could bring what kk would. imo.

Well I see (and hope) KK taking a big step forward this season. If he doesn't, I'll start joining the "worried" crew about him putting it all together.

In 3 years, the answer to the question we have on our hands today should be crystal clear.

As for MB's ability to find a centre.... how long did it take him to find KK and Suzuki? 8 years? And one of them isn't a sure thing just yet.

I said they could be "better defined", meaning they could be updated so that offer sheets make more sense, and at the same time to possibly avoid childish retaliations lol

Well, it does create a precedent for petty revenge.

Like Adam said, I think offer sheets would happen more often if GMs and owners wouldn't act like hysterical prima donnas who just got told someone (frank)ed their wife.

There's a bit of trolling involved with the 20$ signing but at the same time Bergy was a bit unproffessional by calling out an owner would'nt have the liquidity to pay the signing bonus.

If it's just a childish retalation why are we still talking about it 4 days later?

The problem is that he'll never hear the end about that 6.1M$ contract, pressure will be on him to deliver. Fans, medias will be on his case. Even if they say they don't care about this stuff...it affects them 100%

oh, I wasn't saying MB's comments were a smart move either. and we're still talking about it because it's actually happening, and Bergevin has until Saturday to reply...

I don't think GMs will ever be thrilled when someone swoops in and try to steal their best prospects, for one, three or 10 years.

If it's petty revenge and completely insane they should just let KK walk and it should hurt a competitor in the east, but they won't because they got caught with their pants down with no backup plan at center and the offer isn't ludicrous enough to just brush it off and take the picks.

I think it's brilliant move whithin what's allowed in the CBA.
