many nhl cities' fans ONLY care about their nhl team and ignore the alternatives.
- mr.peanut

well, to be fair having a partnership with NHL teams in the original six cities where the hockey market is healthy makes a whole lotta sense, it isn't necessarily a matter of ignoring the "alternatives"

Besides TO and MTL, what are the other sporting options in those cities?

Look at those cities when the teams are bad is an indicator of casual hockey support.

so you're saying NYR, CHI, DET and BOS aren't selling tickets when their team isn't winning? I kinda doubt that.

It's a false premise to believe the O6 markets would be the best markets. Minn, buff and qc would work better than det, chi and nyc

BUF better than NYR, really? I get that there's already a poop load of sports in NYR but I'm pretty sure it would be more than viable for a women's hockey team there, and the visibility would surely be much better (and who wants to play in Buffalo lol)

i take your word, as you are the only one here who seemed to have conducted a research project on women hockey markets projections in North American cities at school.

you may be right, but the objective is not to break even in these 6 cities, it's to develop a new market among girls and women across the continent. the exposure in BUF and Qc is not the same as NY and CHI

Rangers get lost there. Put yourself in a place where you're closer to one than last and you're not fighting with 10 teams for the public's dollar. In NYC you're behind the yankees, jets, giants, knicks, mets, rangers, redbull, nycfc, islanders, devils and liberty. Buff it's the bills and sabres

Well it beats the fantasy people have every couple of years after watching the only 2 good teams play that a league is viable if the nhl invests in it

Exposure only matters if people care. The nhl has been trying that for years.

the Rangers are at 95.6% percent in capacity average, I think they're doing just fine.

I don't see what that changes if the team is doing well financially and in terms of popularity.

Because the best league in the world has a team in nyc and it generates minimal buzz. Loyal fanbase, but it isn't an indicator of what a women's league would do there
