He “retired” due to the injury. He isn’t coming back.
- nyisles7
if he retired he wouldnt be able to be used on ltir. So if he isnt coming back then he is just collecting his injury benifits. |

If a player retires “due to injury” he is eligible to be placed on LTIR. Which is the case with Boychuck. |

Yeah, but he said he wasn't actually retiring. He would've forfeited the last two years of pay if he retired. Yes, he's technically "retired" but he hasn't officially hung them up.
Boychuk said he’s not retiring, so his $6 million cap hit for 2020-21 and 2021-22 is still on the books even though he can’t play. If the Islanders need to, they can exceed the $81.5 million cap for next season by that $6 million if they place Boychuk on long-term injured reserve. They only need to do that once teams have to become cap compliant, which would be the week the season starts. |

He is retired and it’s due to his eye injury. If you retire due to an injury your team can place you on LTIR. Makes no difference if he says he’s retired or not.

Edit: Pretty good explanation on the use and rules of LTIR where the article uses The Islanders and JB’s situation.

beacuse thats not how the ltir cap works. Also if boychuck comes back his entire contract will hit the books. - BlueTaco

Just read that a San Jose coach quit ( got let go ), because of his vaccination status ( he wouldn't tell ). Fu*k me, anything going into my body, is my choice.
There's going to be poop hitting the fan soon. |
