not opposed to a WNHL, am opposed to the men, once again, having to pay for the supposed strong independent women. If not for the NBA the WNBA would have folded long ago, sadly ppl, both men and women, are not that interested in most womens sports.
women don't need no man until you needs the mans money uh. - Mithos
Replace the word women with Nashville or Arizona neither of which would have survived without the “mans money”. The business decision is whether growing interest among female fans through a WHNL, helps the NHL. The problem, I’d guess is that the NHL is too marginal and money strapped to get behind the idea. Instead I think we’ll see individual franchises support activities in their own markets.
Hopefully for your sake the Pornhub Pillowfight League takes off in a big way. |

Considering the high level of education the women in the game get due to the lack of a pro league, I think they will figure this thing out eventually at least to the levels of an OHL/QMJHL level success if they get supplemented funding from say a pro team. If the Leafs/Habs/Rangers/Bruins had a funded version of a woman's team, I would imagine it would be successful enough. The problem is and always will be travel expenditure like the AHL and ECHL. If they kept it in a small niche it would save money, but also negate the hope for cross province/state promotion. |

Just like the WNBA, I don't see a professional women's team being able to survive on it's own. It would basically live artificially through other organizations.
It's nothing against the women or their abilities, but there are just so much time one can invest in sports as an entertainement.... Personally, I would probably never go to a game just like I never go to a junior hockey game.... by lack of time and overall interest.
The time I do watch sports, I'd rather watch the best there are. (NHL, NBA, NFL, etc.)

Was gaming with a friend from Jersey last night... water was up to his car windows for a while, before it retreated.
Not good.

I'm interested to see what happens when eventually the NCAA is forced to pay basketball and football players, which absolutely is coming. A lot of athletes, of both sexes, will quickly see their scholarship money dry up and the conversation around title 9 will become really heated because there will no longer be the vast sums of money basketball and football provide to pay for those scholarships for athletes in sports that don't draw money |

My son was supposed to have some breakdance classes this season.
It got cancelled because the teacher was now unavailable.
"Well son, what do you want to do instead?"
"I think I'll play hockey!"
So my "activity" bill just went from 70$ to 600$ pretty damn fast.... |

Being a hockey parent is (frank)ing expensive. I hope for your sake he's either not good enough to make a traveling team or so good that he makes it pro and eventually can pay you back. I don't envy you taking him to 6 AM Saturday practices either |

Or, at the very least, does not want to be a goalie.

The bolded is more likely.
He's 7 years old and can barely skate.
I'm behind him 100% in all he does, but I have absolutely zero expectations of him being in anything else than the "C" team. This year at least.

Read somewhere MB had offered KK under 2 million a year for 2 years.
Not sure if that is true, or just hyperbole after the fact.

I think Patches started at 14. Either way you get to share your passion with the kid and that alone is pretty awesome |

and Pacioretty started playing at 14..? I guess the "earlier the better" theory isn't absolute. |
