Cups aren’t won without players like Tonelli and it’s about time the HOF recognizes some of these guys. - Tee56
Look, I like Tonelli a lot. Pat Maroon has won 3 Cups in a row. Your logic makes a good argument for putting him in. Your trolling me,right?

I don't know about Tonelli.
As I live in Ottawa I always look at the Alfredson and Sundin to the HOF comparisons.
I hate the Leafs. But Sundin should be in the Hall. I love Alfredson....but sadly he just doesn't have enough to be there. It sucks that the Stanley Cup sometimes is a measurement for getting in. |

Until we make it to a ECF during a real full season, we shouldn’t be JO-ing to the last two. 2019 had a break 4/5 of the way through and then we happened to get hot while playing in a bubble when the season resumed 43 months later. Same thing last year. We limped into the playoffs after 50 something games and happened to get hot again. It baffles me why we’re giving so much clout to the last two seasons. Don’t get me wrong; I’m loving our growth and development into a contender and it was great experience for our young guys, but let’s not go finger blasting ourselves just quite yet. I’d like to see how this group does during a full season.
Tampa just won back to back shortened-seasoned Cups. Do we really think those are legit/huge accomplishments? No. They’re asterisk Cups. Maybe I’m the only one, but if my first Cup win as an Islanders fan came during some bullshįt shortened season, I would’ve been pissed. Let’s do it for real.

He was a great Islander and a great hockey player. 1000 games over 800 points is pretty friggin great. That said he is probably not a HOF player for me. Deserved to get his number retired for sure.. HOF is a bit of a reach. That said if Tee gave me some comparables to guys in the Hall already he could maybe change my mind.

Dude, come on. If you feed the stray, it's just going to keep coming back. He does this in every thread. And that's all he does. We've learned to just let him say it and move on. |

Tonelli was a bull and a great player. Guy couldn’t get moved off the puck. With that said he is NOT a hall of fame player imo. |

What the actual fvck are you talking about??? Apparently you don't recognize sarcasm. That's ok. Just go on back to your thread and we'll continue to talk amongst ourselves.
Just as an fyi, every one of us thinks Lou is doing a great job. He's taken talent that was already here, added a few pieces and gone to the conference finals 2 years in a row. Yeah, we're doing ok. - Isleshockeyman

If you are referring to my post then please note:
Lou has done a terrific job turning the Islanders whole organization around in an incredibly short time. He’s one of the best ever.
To your point though there are some Numb Nutz on here who shat on Lou the day he was hired and definitely hated most of his moves in the first summer here. That said with the results they have come to respect him as well. - nyisles7
Don't you love when outsiders come in here, read one post (which was sarcasm) and assume we all think the same way? |

Yes, yes you are. Regardless whether they were shortened seasons or not, the names still get etched on to the cup.
Let me ask you this. Let's just say the Isles won game 7 and went on to beat Montreal for the cup, would you have cheered, jumped up and down & celebrated? Or would you have just sat there with your arms folded saying it was a bullsh!t win?
That said, there is some validity to the full season point. Bear in mind though that every team played 56 regular season games. Now one thing you didn't point out was the alignment of the divisions. Would Montreal even had made the playoffs if they had been in the Atlantic? |

That's the thing, it's the Hall of Fame. Not the Hall of Great or Really Good. There's a lot of great players that don't have the numbers to make it in. I loved him, but he's not HoF worthy. |

Quick question; some fans think Jonathan Toews should go into the HOF when he’s done, look at want he’s done comparing to Tonelli?
Should one of them go in or both stay out? |

Toews has won:
3 Stanley Cups
2 Olympic Golds
2 IIHF World Junior Golds
1 IIHF World Championship
1 Selke
1 Conn Smythe
Both were/are great players, but Toews has simply accomplished more. |

I’ll be honest with you. I did go back and forth during this regular season in regards to my would be excitement. I’ll admit that the farther we got into the season and the playoffs, the more I got excited. I would’ve been freakin pumped, but there would still be that thought of “damn it I wish this was a full 82 game season” in the back of my head. Just wanted it to feel complete. It wouldn’t have been the same if they won in 2019 and then couldn’t have a parade. You make a good point about last year being an even playing field, at least in regards to number of games.
Thank you. I forgot about that part. The alignments kinda threw things off too. Not a chance Montreal makes it through and we would’ve annihilated them. |

On the issue of whether the last two Stanley Cups are legit, I'd say you're off base.
On the issue of reading too much into the last two seasons, I think you have a point as far as the regular season goes. I don't think there's any doubt that the Isles are built for the playoffs...that much is clear from the last two years. But you have to get there first, and it's true the Isles struggled the past two years at about the same time...what would be around mid-season in a normal year. I think they were technically out of a playoff spot two seasons ago when the stoppage happened, and they needed a desperate last gasp this past season to secure their spot. Would they have turned it around if both had been 82-game seasons, or would they have faded? It's a legit question, imo. |

I don't think either get in if Toews retired today. I will admit that the numbers are eerily similar. Though Tonelli played 3 more seasons than Toews has up to this point. So you'd have to compare once he finishes his career. Toews is on a .86ppg pace. Tonelli had a .81ppg. Both in regular season. Tonelli with 836 points to Toews 815 points. At his pace, in 3 years that would put Toews at ~1025 points. Much better than Tonelli. At that point, it would probably get him in. We'll see though. |

I hear what you’re laying down. Two consecutive seasons this team sputtered down the stretch and may have been saved by a shortened season. It’s possible they could’ve righted the ship in a full 82 game season most teams hit little lulls but who knows really? They play a grinding, physically demanding style, that seems to beat the players down…. Guess we’ll find out. |

Let me hear your argument against Maroon? How about Bob Bourne? 4 Cups, Masterton winner, Selke consideration worthy. Neither a great goal scorer.

Yeah it did. Toronto got fat on teams like Calgary, Ottawa & Vancouver. Would Toronto even made the playoffs last year if they had to play Tampa, Carolina, Florida & Boston? Maybe, but I don't think they would have finished in the top 2 or 3 spots.
I get your point and can appreciate it, but you gotta have some perspective. |
