All GM's start somewhere. He was also a pro hockey player for many years, as most GM's were.

I'm curious how many openings there really are at forward.

Skinner, Cozens, Olofsson, Asplund, Mittelstadt, Thompson, Bjork, Girgensons, and Okposo all feel like locks.

I'm guessing Hinostroza is as well.

That leaves 2 openings at forward.

This season it would be a prorated contract in my original scenario where eichel plays in the Olympics and gets moved at the deadline.

Rangers would get eichel for a playoff run this season for a prorated (16 games after the deadline) @ at 7 million.
Basically fitting in around 1 million ish....

Better than taking on some vet loser who has 0 interest in playing in buffalo and his attitude disrupts donnie and the young Sabres learning curve.

Also, it looks bad for the pegula's, retaining $, but getting an actual star player in return, saves face on the tank...
