Perhaps it was a "(frank) You" back after a perceived "(frank) You" from the Habs organization (benching, likely contract offer, other things - he was not coming back, at least, not long-term)...
Not defending the $20 or the "(frank) you", but I get it. - Mashadar
Well it worked out well-- Dvorak at a little over 4... thank you very much----and buddy your 21--- the organization owes you nothing----

it sucks, I liked the kid and I'm sure he'll do well, I just don't wanna see him have success in a damn Canes jersey lolll - Pat1993

If his stats are meh?? those 5 goals from KK should blow you away ahha - bigmacdaddy
I think among the ads in this thread there should be a permanent one that says "Jesperi Kotkaniemi is 21 years old", just as a reminder. |

putting the blame on him for the bad decisions but discrediting his successes by saying it was just luck isn't a very objective way of seeing things, but hey, you do you booboo. - Pat1993
You forgot great goaltending….

He took a $6.1m contract. I don't blame him one bit - Takemedrunkimhome
Me neither see ya--- not one GM in the league would pay him more than 3,5 except that petty organization----
They have money to pay a 5 goal scorer but not their all star goaltender or top 10 defensemen--- yup they are brilliant==== Carolina is awesome |
|
|
|
KK was about to be that 2 C
you forget that - deadpoulet not bc anyone had any real confidence in him...so lets be clear..he was at the time the best option.....Bergy probably didn't want to overpay for a better option...and maybe there's a slight overpay when you look at the deal TODAY.....but long term I think the HAbs dodged a bullet here....KK has not developed at the pace we thought he would...and the staff obviously did not have confidence in him as they benched him last 2 games of SC finals....again..I'm no Bergy fan club member....but this is Eggs Benedict vs scrambled eggs.....

I like your enthusiasm about Dvorak and I hope you're right, I haven't seen him play a whole lot but his stats are very okay-ish, and a lot of folks in here are basically saying he sucks lol - Pat1993
Up to last week KK sucks--- now that he is gone --he is the second coming of McDavid-- if this was any other team besides Montreal ---this would not be a topic of conversation--- |

Oh yeah that brilliant 25 year old goaltender with poopty AHL numbers and 30 games of NHL experience. Definitely pay that guy.
And they didn't have $9 million for Hamilton if they wanted to dress an actual team. So they took care of what they needed to and had about $7.5 million left over. |

What a colossal screw up
Kotkaniemi is only 21 years old!! He’ll thrive in Carolina. Dvorak is a plug
And somehow the Habs are also downgrading their first round pick from potential lottery to late 20s
Arizona’s GM absolutely OWNED Bergevin here

After graduating from the OHL in 2016, Nedeljkovic spent three seasons developing as a pro player, reaching his peak in 2018-19 when he backstopped the Charlotte Checkers to a Calder Cup championship and earned the Baz Bastian Memorial Trophy for best goalie in the AHL along the way.

He won that based on wins with a stacked team. His individual numbers that season were unspectacular. Dude had the 13th best save percentage, tied with Eddie Pasquale.
He posted a .916 save percentage that year. His best ever in the AHL. |

Typically when you compare a 21 year old and a 25 year old, you anticipate more development from the 21 year old, let alone their "pedigree". - Takemedrunkimhome
Generally speaking yes but the player does not want to be there and was not properly developed, so how he develops after the fact is out the window, also I am not sure if KK will become a Galchenyuk sort of player so time will tell. |

So Montreal actually got better and if either team finishes with a top ten pick Montreal gets to keep the better pick? It was cute watching KK learn to skate, slipping and falling around like Bambi, but I can live with it. |

LOL…

hey! cannot blame him. I would have done the same thing.
- fidopro
We all would have done to be fair. If there’s someone to blame it’s the Montreal organization and no one else.
this Dvorak trade is a steal for the HABS....damn right they are a better team today...and damn right they need to look internally to see why they have had such a hard me developing young talent....but today we celebrate MB....he got us a game changer C for the next year!.#gohabsgo! - Hockey Pucker

don't tell me it is hard to leave Mtl. it was your choice. you signed the offersheet. I don't blame you, I would have done the same, but don't bs me. we already have Molson and MB to do that.

As long as their player development sucks Bergevin won’t commit long term @ a cheaper AAV and you absolutely need to do that in cap world. Look at Dvorak, Chayka gambled on a 6yr term and it paid off.
There are players (young and old) that do well in the regular season but then poop the bed in the playoffs. KK had a crappy season but showed up when it mattered. At 21 I wouldn’t bet against him. |
