Dan Marr - Director of NHL Central Scouting: "Dahlin has the skating, skills and elite hockey sense that can dictate the style of play and the pace of a game with or without the puck. He finds ways to contribute in all situations, is ultra-competitive and a high-character person who leads by example."
Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - April 30: "Dahlin is the unquestioned best player available in the 2018 draft class. His offensive instincts are first-rate, and at 6-foot-2, 181 pounds, he's not afraid to play physically if needed."
Mike Morreale - NHL.com - April 30: "The one player in the 2018 draft class who is considered a generational talent, because of his skating, puck-handling, vision and intelligence."
Craig Button - TSN - April 28: "Franchise defining blueliner who very well may be the best defenceman entering the draft since Denis Potvin in 1973."
Sam Cosentino - SportsNet - April 28: "He’s a one-man band and has essentially made this draft a 2-31 affair."
Steve Kournianos - SportingNews/The Draft Analys - April 28: "An electrifying defenseman with ankle-breaking moves, Dahlin is ready to show the NHL what he's made of. He's been called the Swedish Bobby Orr, but Dahlin's passing ability and puck control techniques are quite unique for a defender from any era."
Cam Robinson - DobberProspects - April 26: "Effortless skating mixed with size, smarts, and dangles that would make Pavel Datsyuk nod in approval. He’s the entire package and has all the tools to become a game-changing pillar for an organization."

And none of this was promised to happen instantly. That's the difference with McDavid. It was expected he would come in and instantly contribute at a high level.
Buffalo should do everything to foster the kid's development because 31 other teams would.

Sabres added a pair of scouts. Lukas Sutter, scouted for the Jackets recently. Tommi Vesanen, scouted for Adler Mannheim. Also bumped Mark Jakubowski to assistant GM. |

If you look at Dahlin's points in the two years with Ralph. The first year he had 40 pts in 59 games. 21 of which were Even strengths and 19 which were PPP. He was a -7.
The second year with Ralph and Granato 23 pts, in 56 games. -39. 11 PPP and 12 Even Strength.
There was more than just the coach in his production or lack thereof last year. There was more than the system as is popularly stated by some on WGR in the morning and regurgitated. Lack of Jack didn't help produce points. He had Steve Smith in year one with Ralph and most of year two but perhaps development did not progress. The COVID two week off could have been an issue in year two There is player accountability in year two. He just didn't have a good year in his second COVID straight year. He got sick of losing and his playing showed it. His style of play and Talph's style weren't conducive and his motivation waned. Who knows. - GilPerreault11
He had Smith under Housley as well fwiw. Housley used that man-on-man defensive structure and let the d men ramble and then Krueger switched it to a zone system and clamped down on the o zone creation. It's worth noting that Housley played Dahlin 21 minutes a night and then Krueger toned it down
Not sure what Wilford will implement under Granato |

You're implying that Buffalo should do something right flies directly in the face of evidence. After all, they know more than the casual fan. |

Thanks Homie. Anyone who wants to try and say that wasn't the expectation around here is full of poop. Lets go back to the archives and see what was said the night of 4/28/18. He isn't meeting expectations plain and simple. Those that were pushing the narrative need to own it and not come on here and tell us generational wasn't the expectation THEY SET. |

What a dumb comparison. We're going to compare a guy coming into the league in 2018, with 6'5" goalies who look like linebackers and wear more padding than my wife in the throes of menopause, to a guy who skated from the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies, where goalies were all 5'9", had zero padding and 90% of the league looked like they were skating in quicksand?

He has met expectations. How many D come in (especially on bad teams) and dominate? That said, he still put up historic numbers over his first two years. He is the absolute least of our concerns. |
