That's the problem with some posters. They can't see thru tank4.
Why would the Sabres do this , why no good goalie?
They are not trying to win and ruin their draft position. ☝️
Upl is the perfect goalie for 2021-22.
Plays good = we have a starter
Plays bad = we have a top pick
If his feelings get crushed by the Sabres terrible team this season, so be it..
2017 draft pick
#5 goalie prospect
Sabres have a 40 yard old and a 2 way contract goalie.
This is gonna be upl sink or swim - Boss34
Quick is not a good goaltender anymore. He would not ruin their draft position.
If UPL is the goods, there's a greater chance he ruins the tank than Quick.
Did you suggest the Sabres should only retain salary on Eichel for years 3, 4 and 5? What are you thinking there? |

And then we're 5 million below the floor with a week before the season starts. Should be cool

Especially when he can play a ton in Rochester without getting shell-shocked behind this team. I don't get it - Hank Balling
At what point to you give a 2017 top goalie prospect a shot at the big club?
4 drafts have now pasted by since upl was selected.
He's not a kid, he's 22 years old.
Are you really worried about ruining a "prospect" , he needs to show something this season.
It was the "plan" last season , until he got hurt.
No worries of ruining him...

I don't see how it's short sighted. They want UPL here. That's a fact. They signed Anderson to mentor him. That's a fact. Bringing Quick here flies in the face of what their stated plan is.
LA would need a backup goalie. If Anderson agrees to go to LA, it opens up a scenario to take Quick back. OR. Have a three way trade with Quick included to bring back an an expensive skater.
I just don't see a likely scenario that has Quick and Anderson as the full time starters, or UPL and Quick as the fulltime starters. - TheSabresTaco
If it makes them rethink that plan then I'd call it a win |

They're not trying to lose. They're going to try to win with young players. But they're not 2014'ing.

Or he collects the remaining 11 million, by being miserable and dressing for the Sabres.
0 % he walks away from his contract. It's free $ at this point in his career. Quick would be lucky to get 1 million per IMO.
It would be a berglund move, which is very rare.
I like your idea though. Guys generally dont walk away though. The wife, family and agent thing..... |

A good way to find out is to have him start in Rochester and play very well before calling him up to the Sabres, no?
I'm unsure of the reason against being conservative when the team is going to be bad. |

Ryan Miller:
100 NCAA games played
160 AHL games played
UPL:
23 ECHL games played
25 AHL games played
Now if he's absolutely lights out and proves he's ready, that's a different conversation. Even still, it wouldn't hurt to give him another year of proper development |

Quick will not be a sabre.
You post as if we are trying to actually win. Some of your thoughts are very good, but we are not trying to win.
Most would expect quick and his Stanley cup ring to stop more pucks than a 22 year old kid. Thus hurting the tank4
Obviously they need to retain eichels contract each of the remaining 4 years, not just 3-5.
My point being, years 1 and 2 would be a " cap dump" as you suggested by quicks return. Most came dumps would be short term.
Years 3-5 would be the only $ retaining issue for eichel and the Sabres. If we were comparing cap dump vs. Retaining salary.
We are finally in good contact (standing) situation, aside from irreverent jeff skimmer. |

I want to remind everyone that I don't agree with Adams. But I see why he's doing it.
He wants to see guys sink or swim, because he doesn't want to suck in a few years. He needs to see who should stay and who should go. Part of his, I think post UFA chat, was talking about how he needs to see how the younger guys perform and evaluate whether they should stay or 'move on'. UPL fits into that. Perhaps too quickly, but I know he's in that section. I think he's rushing a rebuild by forcing guys into difficult positions that they can show they can handle.
Proof of this can be seen with his FA acquisitions. There are no players in the org where you can say, why did he bring in so and so guy to steal minutes from, say, R2 or Mitts or whatever. He kept their lanes wide ass open. |

I get your point about being NHL ready ........ that is why Aaron Dell is technically on a 2 way contract. Gives Adams flexability. Dell Vs UPL in camp.
Loser goes down to rochester.

I know they are not trying to win, and I also know that Quick stinks now.
My logic is UPL could be good, while Quick would not be good, and if taking Quick back in a trade with LA for Eichel helps the return and makes the cap work, I'm doing that deal with the knowledge that Quick playing games does not impact the 21-22 tank at all.
Hell, it might actually help the development of UPL to get a full starter workload in the AHL. |
