Am I missing something?
5.8 x 2 = 11.6 million cap hit over the last 2 years?
11 million?
11.6 million?
Do be considered a " cap dump", guys a generally playing much worse than their remaining term correct? - Boss34
He was paid more money earlier in his contract, but the cap hit is averaged out over the entire length of deal. The actual money still owed to him is much less than what his cap hit is. |

I know they are not trying to win, and I also know that Quick stinks now.
My logic is UPL could be good, while Quick would not be good, and if taking Quick back in a trade with LA for Eichel helps the return and makes the cap work, I'm doing that deal with the knowledge that Quick playing games does not impact the 21-22 tank at all.
Hell, it might actually help the development of UPL to get a full starter workload in the AHL. - kingcong39
Good points.
2 sides to this situation.
Your side takes 0 consideration to the player involved in landing in buffalo and the neagitive lockerroom probability.
We need donnie to be the voice of this franchise.
Same mistakes year in year out.
Go get ek9 and bogo to "teach" Eichel.
Go get another hall, stahl, berglund, .....
Check out the team continuity....

Steelers probably have one of if not the best defenses in the league. Offense was shoddy on top of it. Onto Miami.

If he looks dynamite then go for it.
Getting 50 starts in Roch during a season like this would be my plan either way though. Best case scenario, he's terrific and the Sabres finish 25th and pick 8th, worst case he looks bad because the team bleeds high danger chances and we learned nothing other than he's not ready - Hank Balling
I see your point of view. Good debate.
I disagree though, respectfully.
They tried to get upl playing time in buffalo last season.
They have 2 nhl goalies that should be easy to beat for a nhl position, if upl is a borderline top 40-50 nhl goalie.
How long to we wait? He's 22 and we need a guy now.
Play him and have some of the young guys "play for him".
8th last place would be worse than bottom 3 IMO.
just because our top 2 picks haven't worked as planned, no need to try something different with 3 top centers on the board.
I think upl gets every chance to start the season as the Sabres starting goalie π€

Quick is only owed $5.5M in combined salary this season and next. He's not collecting $11M. |

Very good post .
Completely agree.
That's why I see the franchise holding off on obtaining " assets" from eichel.
Cap dumps would not fit in.
Sure, nobody retains salary, but this could be perfect for getting a true top prospect for eichel.
Byfield for example - Boss34
You and I have been on the same page regarding retaining salary on an Eichel trade, but I have an extremely difficult time seeing the Sabres actually doing that. |

Use this link and this site overall as they're a fantastic resource when it comes to the salary cap.

Thank you.
Hypothetically:
If the Sabres trade eichel with 20 games left in the Sabres season. The new team would take on roughly 25% of his remaining salary ( 20 games of 82. Dirty D.)
So team A would be on the hook for 2.5 and would need that much cap space . If we were holding (3 million per x 5)
So roughly 1.5ish would be owed to eichel for this season.
How does the cap hit / salary hit differ?
Is it a matter of the players contract , like quick for example?
Thank you in advance

It's very unlikely considering the pegulas and the rarity ect.
If there was ever a good time, it would be now.
We need an absolute stud in return
We have plenty of future cap space
1 bad future contract in skimmer.
It would make the organization look smart for going thru the tank and getting a star in return. Make kim and terry look good, getting a big return.
I'm still understanding the cap ramifications, tdl movement. Seams like eichel and the Olympics, his not wearing a Sabres uniform again... perfect timing
Neagitive- could be paying eichel to beat us in the playoffs |

If they're really set on playing UPL for whatever reason, then just ship them Anderson.
Or acquire Quick and waive him. - Hank Balling
Or carry 3 goalies. Wouldn't be the first team to do it, and Quick will help with the cap. Not to mention, if he has a good attitude about it, just another mentor for UPL that's had success. |

If I'm not mistaken, both he and his wife are from the area. Just saying, if this is the thought process, no one would ever come to Buffalo. Definitely would have to gauge whether he'd be interested in this sort of arrangement, but wouldn't be the craziest scenario to happen. |
