There's a vote in Canada today?

Big vote in Norway today too.

- 21peter

The election isn't today but I'm voting early.

and he wants to be here

He wants money more than he cares about being in Toronto, he made that clear when he sat into camp. He would have continued to sit if the offer didn't go above 10.5 per.

For someone who's from Toronto, the idea he leveraged the organization for as much money possible should be more of a concern than the idea that a player is from Arizona.

Marner to Arizona

Then Dozzer's prediction will def come true, Matthews follows, Arizona wins the Cup before the Leafs.

.....wait........

- underhill14

I don think it will be AZ. He will end up in NY, LA, CHI, Philly, Vegas, some bright-lights market in the US.

He committed himself to 8 years, Matthews walked himself to UFA as early as possible.

Marner’s contract was only 6 years actually

Marner signed for 6 years.

Sure, one more than Matthews, but definitely not 8.

Edit: and Matthews going to UFA as soon as possible would have been a 4 year contract, not 5.

The results in Norway was center/left when it was center/right last 8 years.
Nothing like going from Trump to Soviet, but possibly not searching for more Oil&Gas and blablabla...

Agree with Dozzer also.
It is clearly just a guess. The Leafs may have to throw max dollars at him on an extension in year 4. He may be the first UFA to command max $ on the market.

- Aetherial

Alot will depend on how good or bad the supporting cast is. One thing I would say is Matthews is the easiest by far to trade and get good value for out of the top four salaries on the Leafs. The timing is not great for the Leafs, Matthews and Willie up for new deals in 24, Mitch and JT in 25 (JT will sign a cheap deal or be gone IMO) McDavid up in 26. Hopefully Leaf management can make a successful sales pitch to Matthews and keep him in the fold. Doubt the Leafs would entertain a max $ deal for anyone not named McDavid.

We'll end up with either a giant douche or a turd sandwich, so I'm pretty excited.

I bet any money another team will offer him a maximum amount so if the leafs want to keep that aside for McDavid then might as well get ready to say bye to Matthews

Not sure if you're trolling.

A Norwegian vote is not like your average vote.

I guarantee you there's not gonna be a riot about this.

I've always felt LA tbh. Perfect Kopitar replacement and would fit with their retooling timeline.

Cool with me, I can see him live!

The only thing that will push it to 100%....from the 85% certainty I currently have....is if the Leafs have not won anything, he's gone.

For what he’ll cost? They will have needed to succeed for them to be willing, I 100% agree.

Won’t be shocked if they move him sooner as well if they’re not getting better tbh
