And then you forgive joel and say it was started by AA because joel flat out lied and said he included picks in his first comment which he did not.

Sorry, I can tell who you like as another poster far more

- Dozzer

You cant tell squat.
I dont have the spare energy to spend on disliking posters on here.
I have agreements and disagreements with Joel and AA over the season(s) (much like everyone has had with all posters on here), none have resulted in us insulting eachother. I have nothing against either one.
So your "you can tell"-ometer is a little off.

How many Americans are even in the HOF?

I certainly don't know much hockey history, but I can only think of a handful of Americans in the HOF.

- Leafs43

Ha - just answered this!!!

Lame question, name one who didn’t and I’ll happily go find ten that did.
- Dozzer

How's it lame?
It factors into your supposed argument.

So I'm allowed to be a Richard and throw poopty remarks at someone if they intentionally post to not stir up a riot, entirely because I didn't understand what they were saying.

I would have thought less riot would have been more in your interests, and that's honestly what I was going for. Got it, guess I swung and missed.

Have a good day Doz. 👍

- joel878

I’d you believe that people not agreeing with you is a riot you’re the problem…. How do you not grasp this? Just because your insults to others are subtle doesn’t make them good.

Have a good evening joel 👍

There have been 289 players enshrined in the HHoF. 14 of them are American-born, and only 12 are male, and only 10 played in the NHL:

Frank Brimsek (1960s; only ever played for US teams)
Joe Mullen (signed with Boston as a Free Agent after playing in Calgary for a few years)
Rod Langway (traded by Montreal)
Pat LaFontaine (never played in Canada)
Brian Leetch (never played in Canada - except for 15 games after a TDL deal right before the lockout)
Mark Howe (never played in Canada)
Chris Chelios (traded by Montreal)
Mike Modano (never played in Canada)
Phil Housley (traded by Winnipeg)
Brett Hull (traded by Calgary)

. . . I mean you have very little to choose from, and from that there's no anecdotal evidence to support that Americans always leave Canada at the first opportunity.

- Monkeypunk

I'm really disappointed you forgot Housley's tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I only did that because you said it for a long time.

I’d respond to you, and you’d always say “calm down”

But I have no beef with you. And I don’t want any with anyone else.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I pretty sure it was mostly "Ok cool" that I would use and then the odd "chill" and "oh calm down"

Ugh,

Some of you guys who believe HoF Americans wanting to stay in Canada is legitimate is frustrating.

One: I’m not convinced Matthews will get there

Two: even the American who started in Canada and did make the HoF didn’t finish their careers here

So why do you think Matthews will? It’s a damn dream and nothing more

14 total. 2 are women, therefore don't apply to this conversation, and 2 were from over 50 years ago (Hobey Baker being one, in 1945).

So, we're talking about a total of 10 possible players, and most of them didn't play for one team their entire career, whether it be canadian or american.

Joe Mullen, Rod Langway, Lafontaine, Leetch, Howe, Chelios, Modano, Housley, Hull (dual).

I think Mullen played most of his career with the Flames.

Despite disagreeing with you.

I gotta admit I cannot think of one american born HOF player who played most of his career with a canadian team.

- Scabeh

Then your less likely to think of one american born HOF player that started their career in Canada and left as soon as possible.....at least not to the extend where you could use as evidence to prove AM already has one foot out the door.

I don't think they look at Canadian teams much differently than American teams. I don't think they look at it and think "well I want to go back to the US, I prefer it there"

I suspect there are cities that some prefer.... like LA or New York, for obvious reasons.

I doubt any of them are itching to get out, like you seem to think.

It's not that I believe Matthews will definitely stay here - It's the fact that you are guaranteeing he will leave based on absolutely nothing except your gut feeling.

You are making a guess and stating it as a certainty.

There's been a fine tradition of good NHLers from Toronto finishing their careers here, long after their prime.

US players deserve that right, too.

I'm looking at you, Mike Modano.

And you, Brian Leetch.

Fun fact I just looked up:

There's only 14 Americans in the HHOF.

Two are women.

One is Hobey Baker (didn't play in NHL).

One is Moose Goheen (didn't play in NHL).

One is Brett Hull, so kinda doesn't count.

Only Rod Langway and Chris Chelios started on a Canadian team.

Both were traded.

I'd have to say your hypothesis lacks the sample size to really be proven one way or the other.

- Atomic Wedgie

most of these guys go where the best contract is, with perhaps some taking some consideration into how good the teams are.

Yeah, I'm sorry that's what you're seeing it as but that much is a swing and a miss on your end. Over the course of this comment thread alone there's been numerous examples of people disagreeing with me, fake and moneypuck the latest, yourself included. At no point did I take offence to as much or label it as an attempt to incite anything.

I encourage you to keep score on this one for sure.

unless you're looking at the American hockey HOF, you've taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Matthews family is where he spends his off seasons… if he truly loved it here why doesn’t he hang out at all during the off season?

four and a half years, in a seventeen year career.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that there's no franking way Mullen should be in the HHOF.

The argument was never that Matthews will finish his career in Toronto. You stated he is leaving in 3 years cause A) he wants to go back down south and B) all Americans leave once they become UFA's.

Does every US-based Canadian NHLer who hangs out in Muskoka all summer hate their US-based team and city?

No - I'm not.

I can't speak for everyone else. But I never said Matthews would definitely stay.

I think he will, I hope he will, but neither of those is a statement of certainty by any means.

Just cautious optimism.

We're not posting it as a certainty.
I've said as of others have said, that he very well leave. But nothing as of today shows that he will definitely be leaving.

As of today, he likes playing in Toronto.
That could change or it may not.

Sundin spent his summers in Sweden, so there’s that.

No worries mate - I kept the score.

As of now: 872 - 117. AA won again
