Honestly, with the additions, Provorov is the 3rd or 4th best defenseman on the PP on the team. - MJL
Agreed, he shouldn’t be on the PP this year. If he is, PP2. I’d really like to see one featured unit, I know it’s good to have a strong second unit which I think we will but the best PPs are driven by a top unit.
I was under the impression that the scouts find them, and that the team extends an invite for them to attend camp. - MBFlyerfan
In some cases agents are making calls around the league looking to place their guys in camps where they might have the best shot at finding a job, too.
We’ve discussed it all but practice time will help the overall team d as well as the tender. More of a normal season will allow us to see what we have. Pk and d should improve. I’m also interested in seeing how the pp is deployed. Do you have provy on the point for pp1 and yandle on pp2 - Hextall271
No, I don't put Provey any where near the PP. I have Yandle on PP1 and either Risto or Ellis on PP2.
If he ends up on the first unit or even a second unit and plays 17 minutes tonight as your fifth or six defenseman that’s fine. If younger guy beats him out, that’s fine too.
Never seen a sports chat so worried about the future

Not really. Its not like he is here for more than a year, or even all of this year. He is a stopgap, nothing more. - MBFlyerfan
Exactly, that's the point. Is he going to have a primary role on the PP? What do we want? A one and done team or a team that can contend and push for the cup over a significant number of years? You want continuity in a lineup as much as possible to do that. You want to build a lineup with players in key spots that you can build with. If he is the PP QB on the top PP unit and they're successful this year, then what? You've missed an opportunity to develop chemistry with a player who is not a stop gap. Stop gaps are fine for role player spots

Yandle's still one of the best PP QBs in the league tho. It's the biggest reason why any team would sign/dress him. Ellis is pretty good too, but still not in Yandle's league.

Absolutely he is. Which I why I don't buy that he's going to be taken out of the lineup and he's only holding the spot for York. I think Yandle is going to improve the Flyers PP. The coach isn't going to take that out of the lineup.

Dunno, think he's gonna be walking a fine line this year. AVs never had the highest opinion of his work at ES. A few missed assignments and it's possible he gets Ghost'd. Doubt it would be York who would enter the lineup, tho.

You don't think that AV was consulted on the signing? Who is going to enter? Morin?

Young players earn spots, they are not inherited.
Only Ron Hextall feels otherwise and he is already making folks nervous in Pitt.
Also players get hurt all the time. The roster in April will without a doubt look different than it does now. It’s the GMs job to prep for the worst not pray guys stay healthy especially on d.
If York and Frost are ready they will simply take a job. It’s really just that simple. Non issue.
Glad we have a GM this year that actually understands young players need to win and win early in their careers. See the other team in the Wells Fargo if you want an example of why that important.

I'm sure AV was sold on the logic of bringing Yandle in to help the PP. But that doesn't necessarily mean Yandle's in the clear. We also gotta assume that AV must have signed off on Gus last summer. And AV must have been OK w/ elevating Myers instead of replacing Niskanen. Doesn't mean they were immune from being scratched down the line.
And yeah, Morin or Clendening or Zamula. I think they let York settle in a bit as a pro before yanking him around.

What???Hextall was extra cautious with young players to the dismay of many

This ignores history. How do you think a coach gets a rep, deserved or not for favoring vets over young players? You're talking two different things here. There's a difference between bringing in vets as role players to buy some time versus vets brought in because you've shifted to a win now mode. With the moves made, the team has already decided where players like York and Frost are likely to start the season.
