Not sure why people get their panties in a bunch about young guys getting their shot with the big club. If they are good enough and stand out they will get their shot. Like anything in life it has to be earned. Frost really hasn't shown that much at the NHL level. He'll be given a fair chance.

No, he won't be given a fair shot. That is the point. It's really funny because nobody has said anything remotely close to stating that it doesn't have to be earned.

im not sure why people are excited either, its like at work, 2 people doing he same job, but the boss relies on the vet, because there isnt the trust established with the young guys yet, it takes time. Some people cant grasp that. Or they want to complain to complain, and theres a lot of that too

Guess we don't see things the same(not unusual). I think the young guys have been given a fair shot for the most part. Farabee made the most of his shot and is in the starting lineup with a new contract. Allison has acquitted himself well and it looks like he has a spot as well. The fact remains that others haven't done as well. Frost wasn't really all that impressive(certainly not enough to hold a spot for him). I always hear people complaining about Morin not being given a shot. He hasn't looked impressive either. I mean, everyone has to worry about their jobs. AV is coaching for his job and Fletcher is GMing for his job. I personally think York will be up with the big club sooner rather than later cause I thought he looked good. Perhaps my take is too simple, but that's the way I see it.

The GM is on record saying it won't be an equal competition. It couldn't be more clear. Barring an injury to the defense, who is coming out of the lineup for York?

Clearly there is one person arguing just to argue and that is you with this silly juvenile response.

Nope. Pointing out your hyperbole and false claims. It was in reference of frost on the fourth line.

I'm still confused as to why this is breaking news? It shouldn't be an equal competition! As others have mentioned, if you hold a job in the work place and have proven yourself worthy of the position it's not going to be an equal competition for the position. The incumbent(guys that have proven themselves at the NHL level) will get the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I stand by my previous statement and think it's rather simple. If one of these young guys prove themselves worthy they will be rewarded. The veterans that were brought in(Yandle, Thompson and Brassard) were all given relatively small one year deals which means they can be removed from the roster rather easily. I look at them as insurance policies more than blocking any of the younger guys being given a chance. Last year may have been the worst year in Flyers hockey EVER(from a competitive standpoint)!! I'm sure that management would love to see the young guys earn their wings, but they can't wait around cause another year like last year and the house may be cleaned starting with the GM! Anyone could come out of the lineup for York(with the probable exceptions of Ellis and Provorov). If one of the top 6 defenders is seriously slacking and York is playing 25 minutes in the AHL and owning the ice he would most likely be brought up. Again, this is a very important year for the team after last year's debacle.

can you imagine if he had penciled in frost and york as starters, then they start playing and they arent ready, and then it would be like last year all over again. Cant take that chance.

Didn’t say much. “ Laperriere said Zanetti “picked up the details” he was trying to get across as he introduced the system to the young players.”

On Frost he said, “It had to be tough for him not to be playing, but he’s putting the work in and games are going to come fast,” Laperriere said. “So far, he looks great, he looks healthy, he looks excited. If he can become the player everyone thinks he can, it’s going to help the organization.”

Thank you very much! Quite a few reports are raving about zanetti so far. I hope the flyers found another gem with this guy

I didn't make a single false claim. The only hyperbole was the nonsense you've been replying with. You have no clue what you're talking about.

It is painfully obvious that you have an agenda and are just arguing to argue with out making any kind of rational attempt to have an adult conversation.

We disagree. Players like Yandle, Brassard and Thompson are on one year deals for a reason. Their level of play did not earn them a bigger or longer contract. There should be 2-3 forward spots and one defense spot open for competition for a roster spot. That competition should have every player fighting for those spots on an even and level playing field. What's important for the team is building for the future and hopefully building a consistent and contending team. Not just one season. That's tunnel vision. You do that by adding high end young skill to the lineup. Not by gifting roster spots to older players who are not part of the future and who are at the end of their careers.

I think you just hit it on the head. We disagree! Perhaps the Flyers just don't have high end young skill in their pipeline? IMO the spots are there for the taking. You could be right that Fletcher is just covering his own arse and trying to get through this year with stop gap veteran players, but if the young guys showed more upside these veterans wouldn't be needed.

So you don't think that Frost and York are going to be good NHL players? I don't want to put words in your mouth.
