Just look at this Flyers team since AV has been here. Farabee has progressed so far. Sanheim just got a hefty raise, so did Carter Hart. AV certainly was not holding Hart back by not playing him. Look, a coaches job is to put the team in the best position to win games, and part of that is playing the best players you have in the right spots and situations. If a player can handle it, he will play, otherwise he won't. I think AV wants to win a cup badly and will play anyone, no matter what age, he believes will help him get it. - jd250
Exactly, all this "the team is in win now mode, what about our young kids" is garbage talk, we have prospects that will be in the AHL this year, and minors, who will eventually make it to the NHL....WHEN READY
We are in win now mode, and still set for the future. It doesn't have to be either/or.

Exactly. We are in a great spot right now where it’s tough to crack our lineup + we have young reinforcements pushing for spots when injuries or bad streaks happen to players. |

The point is that AV hasn't serially "held back" young players. Ultimately, any player will rise or fall on his own merits. - bmeltzer
But the salary cap structure may hold them back. You didn't answer my question as to how Frost and/or York could fit if called up. |

both are on ELC so fitting them in will not be an issue.

It can't be answered unless I know the scenario. Is someone going on LTIR? Is someone else being waived and assigned to LV? The Flyers currently have only enough cap space to carry 13 forwards, 7 D and two goalies. But other roster moves could open more cap space.
Example: If Aube-Kubel clears waivers and is assigned to LV, the Flyers would get 100 percent cap relief on his $1.075 M cap hit (which is also the maximum a team can bury in the AHL). Let's say that was the case. The Flyers could call up whomever they want on LV. |

Over on BroadStreetHockey they have Noah Cates 17th on list of top prospects. Anyone else surprised they don't list him higher? |

Did young players progress under his watch on those teams? Or did they stagnate and or regress? Off the top of my had I have no idea either way just curious without having to look - hello it's me 2050
Hope he does well to get that 3 c spot. Brassard can center the 4 th and Nate can simple sit until needed. Which imo he isn’t. |

Where was Jackson listed. May be confusing them but I think Jackson is slightly better. |

We shall see how he does this year. Last year he seemed to bounce back, but that season was so short. |

Im not impressed with their staff's acumen. They have always praised the "shiny new toys" and dock the players who have worked up from their draft position. They do the same thing with Tanner L. Its like they dont watch a minute of college or minor hockey...they just live off the draft prospectus.

The 'Nucks are sitting there ripe to be a victim of an offer sheet. They really cant afford to pay Quinn and Elias their market value with their current cap situation.

I dont believe the 190. Make him take his shirt off and flex. - biggbear77
What is this silly obsession w/ Frost's weight anyway? Some of the top scorers in the league are total feather weights: Aho, Panarin, Marner and Ehlers. Captain Clode, Farabee and TK all came into the league on the lighter side and they were just fine.
Etc. |

I see Frost (but not York) is already included in the cap figures on the right hand side of the home page, I feel a little better now. |

I used to listen to them often and i just can’t keep listening to Steph Driver lol. I feel she knows more hockey than she shows but on the podcast (and Twitter) she just has really dumb and silly takes that just take away from her knowledge |

NP. Noah suffers from the same media bias that Tanner did. They both seemed to really tailor their approach to match what the Flyers want in a 200ft player, often to the detriment of their own offensive numbers. However, they stay the course and are very disciplined to maintaining that 200ft commitment.
I probably watched 85-90% of Tanner's games at Ohio State and I really think he could be a legit 3C in the NHL...he just needs to do the same thing Coots did to let his offensive creativity come to the front more often than always playing it super safe.

Being tough to crack the lineup is what is always should be. What it shouldn't be is to have the deck stacked against a young player. It should be a legitimate camp competition for some spots and in the current situation, it isn't.

I’d argue on paper it isn’t, but come camp if x young player outplays y vet I truly believe our coaching staff will have the young guy penciled in. Unless that spot is on the 4th line and it’s Frost. Idk about you, but I rather have Frost 1st line minutes (to start) in the AHL vs 4th line in NHL |

Yandle is only 1 year. But York and z could be up and probably will with injuries. Which will be more beneficial this year for their development. If frost earns his spot he will start. Nate or NAK could be the 13 th forward. Nothing is written in stone. Better to have a stopgap over putting them in a situation to fail. Injuries are inevitable. The rest is overblown. |
