Rene Levesque look-a-like in the main bar every afternoon and night sitting by himself smoking and drinking draft. The beer was ridiculously cheap. Also, wonderful cheap Hungarian restaurants (Country Style, etc) on that block and the Sorry No Chicken place across the street. It was a great neighbourhood. - Canada Cup
Oh frank yes.
Lived at Bernard and Brunswick from 1996 - 1999.
Loved the Hungarian restaurants - a carnivore’s dream. Would order the fatal - the Transylvanian wooden plate.
Oh god, I’m getting the meat sweats just thinking about it. |

Agreed. My original point was in response to a poster who said the Leafs are a "lock" for the playoffs. I don't see it that way at all. - fifty__missions
I like their chances a lot, but anything can happen. I also don't think they are a lock to be eliminated in the first round |

Well, they have drafted and developed elite talent that is the basic model all contenders have used. |

Generalization. That is not how Tampa built their Cup winning third line, for example. |

Another Gachenyuk type project. Some offensive flashes (missing last year) but lost in his own zone. Worth an experiment - Canada Cup
Not quite the same. Gally is a couple of years younger, can hit and has scored 30 goals in an NHL season. Gusev had one decent season in the NHL was a seventh rounder and scored 13 goals in that season. Gusev is also soft as slime. |

I like the tank and draft model chances better than the Burke approach. The Leafs have followed that, clearly. |

I'm just saying Cup winners often acquire their final pieces with purpose. Tampa gave up significant picks to build that third line, and then targeted a player like Pat Maroon for their fourth. The Leafs have no assets to deal, no cap space, and are left with throwing poop at a wall and hoping it sticks. All the while losing significant pieces for nothing, and having had no discernible playoff success for FIVE years. |

I think Tampa used the Black Hawk's model. "Cheat the cap better than anyone else can"

I like it, it's that perseverance in the face of adversity that forges champions. Shanny knows what he's doing. |

That left side is abysmal. I think Robertson is 100% going to be in the lineup. Ritchie is brutal offensively, and Bunting is unproven. If Mikheyev and Engvall don’t get off to a hot start I can see Dubas going out and grabbing another LW.
Also, Sandin is our second best defenceman. Brodie is solid, but isn’t a threat. Muzzin.. idk we’ll see. It’s time for Robertson and Sandin to play key roles, and I think they’re ready for it. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Look out lottery pick if Sandin is our 2nd best D. What happened to Rielly being a stud #1 or did I miss you guys trading him in this convo i butted into? 😬
Muzzin - Brodie - Rielly are better then Sandin.
Maybe even Dermott if Sandin doesn’t pull up his stockings this year.

Sandin is 21 yrs old and you're writing him off? Liljegren is a shocking 22, we should trade him for a seventh! Not every prospect pans out Garnie, dmen take longer in general but not always. Sandin has played all of 37 NHL games and he's a bust? This organization needs to develop defensive talent not toss it overboard. I think Sandin will be a very reliable top four defender. Not afraid to hit, has a good shot, and lots of confidence. Needs playing time and coaching. |

He’s a nothing PTO who scored some points in the K. He may or may not play a game with the Leafs. Hopefully he doesn’t cost us a playoff game. |

I don't think anyone's writing him off as much as, just as you said... He's 21 and he's played all of 37 NHL games. Citing him as our second best defenceman with confidence is an absolutely ridiculous claim (bonus points for having Rielly as the best). Hopefully he will grow to that real fast, but right now he's not in the top 4. |

Still waiting to hear from all the people who said to trade Hyman last summer. I know I’m old but I don’t remember any. |
