Notice that the sex clubs get to re-open.

Doesn't say how many allowed at the ACC, though.

I flagged Zezel's post for saying bad things about the Madison Pub - can you please ban him for life?

Thanks

- Atomic Wedgie

Madison Pub was ok by me. It paled in comparison to the Brunswick House - in particular the great Albert's Hall downstairs.

I remember one night in July of '85 when I went to see blues guitar great Albert Collins (AKA the Iceman) The blues fans were treated to some outstanding guitar work that evening. Albert brought out two guys I had never heard of before. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Healey. Was amazing, didn't mind the beer either.

This is going to sound like I'm slagging Forsberg, but I'm really not:

I always thought that Forsberg benefitted from having Sakic as the captain. Forsberg could just quietly go about doing his thing. He could show leadership in the dressing room, but he didn't have to deal with the media (although that was much less of a job in Denver).

I always thought that Sundin would have benefitted from an arrangement like that - I never really felt like he loved all the crap that came with being Leafs captain.

- Atomic Wedgie

#21 wasn't exactly known for that, was he...

You're right about him never wanting the "C" for exactly that though - having to speak politely to the media was never his thing!

- but ask Sakic who was the best player on that team...

I would not be so confident that this team is a playoff lock.
- fifty__missions

How? This team has proven to be one thing so far; and that's a regular season team.

I think playoffs are a lock. Whether or not they do anything in the playoffs, is up in the air. But hopefully they figure that poop out.

Ever since I moved here. A bunch of the big time lawyers with offices around there (Clayton Ruby) would martini lunch there on occasion. The high end watering holes in the area were the bar at the top of the Park Plaza and especially the 22 at the Windsor Arms. It was amazing how many people downed how many martinis at lunch in those days.

Marner is an excellent player. His effectiveness on the PP is limited IMO because his shot is not particularly strong or accurate. Having him on the point is also a questionable strategy IMO, because the defender knows he will probably pass instead of shooting so the defender has a sigificant advantage. Nylander at the point on the first PP unit would make more sense. His shot is excellent and defenders would have to defend against both the shot and pass options. I haven't seen WAR stats or GAR stats for 2021, but would think that Matthews was easily the top forward in both categories. Neither Marner or Matthews have hit their peak productivity yet.

For sure he is!

He just needs the proper linemates to feel safe.

I lived on Walmer Road, half a block down from Bloor. With windows open in the summer, the sounds and smell of patrons leaving the Brunswick at closing every night was very special.

I fell in love with Ms Pac-Man in the bar (not the Hall) at that place

If it’s what he’s worth on the market, then that’s what he’s worth 🤷‍♂️

We can go through the entire league and judge each player based on their recent performance. There are some criminally overpaid players, as well as underpaid. Marner is neither. Tavares’ contract is definitely more of an issue than Mitch’s, but no one ever talks about it.

I truly believe I’m fair to Nylander. I praise him a lot but hey, let’s only focus on the negative so it can be used against me.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I completely agree with you here AA. A nice $7-8m 2nd C would be so much better for this team. Maybe, just maybe, Dubas knows already that Matthews isn't staying and wanted to hedge that bet to sign JT as the soon to be #1C. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

ps...I, personally, wouldn't say you bag on Nylander 'too much', but it is usually about his D issues. Morgan has more IMO and he's a Dman. And, this is exactly why I thought he should be signed or traded this summer. Once he gets leverage, he will become overpaid and/or we will lose him for nothing.

We currently have a small window of opportunity.

Trading away assets now for futures is not the right move.

- Atomic Wedgie

Why is the argument always based around "futures"?

It could also be a move for a replacement with a pick or prospect added on our side depending on the other player's contract value. Couldn't it?

Obviously Dubas needs a trading partner but losing him for nothing while this team still doesn't have its poop together, not good asset management. At all IMO.

For those of you who have never been, it started as a big house that was converted into a bar. It became so popular they bought the house next door and connected them. So it was a bar that was chopped up into a bunch of smaller rooms.

Well, to start, there was one room upstairs that was non-smoking. It had huge lineups. So eventually they started converting more an more rooms to non-smoking. But really slowly.

It always frustrated the hell out of me, because you could clearly see that supply was smaller than demand for non-smoking.

FFS, they just should have made the entire place smoke-free.

Because Rielly wouldn’t be enough to land a top pairing d man making the same or less for a longer term.

Can’t get a more expensive player, wouldn’t fit under the cap, and the leafs don’t have many picks or prospects to get another team to give up a guy who is top pairing, doesn’t make much, and is signed longer

You watch your franking mouth, Zezzie.

Back in the day, it was the place to go on Saturday nights after the game.

Al Strachan was always there. Gord Miller was there a lot. Paul Romanuk.

And Wendel would often show up (he lived on Madison).

It's where I saw the 2002 gold medal game. Funny story: before the game, a guy wearing a USA jersey sorta sidled up to us - asked if it was OK if he watched with us, because he was worried about his safety. We laughed - assured him he was fine, as long as Canada won. Turned out to be a nice guy.

I also saw the Tuck Rule Game there.

- Atomic Wedgie

Shane Corson was there a lot ...A LOT. Like off days ...in the afternoon ...by himself.

If Rielly isn't worth that then why worry so much about keeping him for this phantom Cup run?

Try to trade for a legit #3/4 bad ass D and a LW or picks and call it a day. There's some other type of deal that could help the team.

I just don't think this is a Cup team with the Cap issues. Losing players the past few years for nothing is really depleting the cupboards.

Muzz, Brodie
Sandin, Rielly acquisition...someone mean that crosschecks.
Dermott, Holl

This would probably be a better situation than losing him for nothing.
