Disney teams usually win, so your comp doesnt work.

They made it to Game 7 the next year...and the next year...

That's what's been so tough on the ballbag with these Maple Leafs...they've been right there in series five years straight. It really spins my nut. The series where they had a lead going into the 3rd period of Game 7 against the Bruins was tough. Not the 4-1 game, the subsequent series. You know, the 2nd of 3 Game 7s they've lost against Boston. Very rough on the sac.

Winning one more game a year later isnt what I mean by progression. That first year was fun because we all thought they’d continue to get better. Sure Boston is a good team, but they have to find a way to win those big games. 5 years in now and they can’t win those games still.

But in a disney movie the bad guy team is usually feared and has a history of winning.

Still doesn't work

The Leafs are the Cinderella team but the last 50 years were just the first two acts. Hope hope

I think there’s an interesting debate on whether or when management should be open with the fan base. I can see it at the start of a rebuild. “Yes, we’re going to suck for a while (more) but now it’s going to be on purpose.” Other than that, I’m not sure. “Auston hurt his left wrist today. We really hope nobody starts slashing him.”

In my opinion, I think your argument doesn’t hold up. I don’t think it would make sense for them to be selling us a bill of goods right now. Why would Dubas go out of his way to say he believes in the core and is ready to go down with them if he’s just trying to save his ass. If he wanted to buy a few years, why not say, with regret, that they have to move on from Marner, that it will hurt 8n the short term but bet better in the long run?

- Canada Cup

Dubas has no choice but to stick to the "plan" and hope it pans out. Well, he does have a choice, but he won't go down that road. The guy wants a long career in hockey management, and moving on from one of the core would be a tacit admission that his plan was flawed from the start. Who wants to hire that guy?

I think he's hoping things pan out somehow this year, and if not, he will sell himself as a guy whose plan got derailed by the flat cap/covid. Meanwhile, we will have lost Hyman, Freddy, and Rielly , most likely, for nothing in return.

Meh, we added Campbell, Tavares, Muzzin, Brodie and others...these things go both ways.

If Dubas was fired today, there’s not a single team out there who would even consider hiring him.

Tavares is massively overpaid.

Makes $2mil more than Makar, lol. Not to mention Crosby, Kucherov, Draisaitl, Kane etc..

All those other players were deemed not worth the $ by their former teams. Dubas hasn’t made a single good player for player trade.

Well, the Leafs did go from dead last in the league to the best winning percentage in their hundred year history as a franchise, and Dubas has already won an AHL championship. Before that he dramatically improved the Soo Greyhounds. So I find your take to be simply not believable.

Jfj was just hired
So that's not true.

Actually jfj being hired doesnt have anything to do it not being true.

Some team could hire him easily. We simply dont know

I’m talking about the players the Leafs acquired via FA, aka Brodie and Tavares. Every trade has been a poor trade.

It’s OHL dude.

Teams turn over very quickly in that league.

The Leafs turn around had nothing to do with Dubas. Lou and Shanny implemented the rebuild and handed Dubas a golden goose.

The one Dubas move I hate is that pick he utterly wasted on the bust known as Sandin.

Bjornfot might be a decent player.. Grundstrum and Durzi meh.. Still, LA got a decent return for an injury prone declining player.
