Lol.
Hughes had many blunders and was a big reason why the team sucked defensively.
He was making these same mistakes in his 1st season, but because he was playing with one of the best defensive defenseman, they were covered up.
Also, many had blinders on and only get excited about offense and are generally ignorant to the defensive part of the game. - Reubenkincade
You hate Hughes as much as I hated gudbranson, so I get it. I don't think Hughes was good defensively at all last year, but I also still think he's just as important to this team as pettersson is. I also think he can be better defensively when he has a partner who can play to his strengths like tanev did. |

You gotta admire guys who call people "low IQ" for essentially agreeing with them.
High IQ Canuck fans - QH isn't that bad defensively, he just played for a team that played badly due to a number of factors.
JH - QH isn't that bad defensively, he just played for a bad team.
High IQ Canuck fans - lol JH is low IQ.
It's almost as if they're inching towards self awareness. - RealityChecker
No problem with what JH said but clearly pretty naive - his team was horrible as well so probably best to focus on his own house. I expect he’ll get a couple pops from someone when the two teams meet. If he can take it, good on him.
QH struggled defensively - to simply blame it on a bad team is ideology, not fact. I really like him as a player and think he will be fine long-term but wouldn’t pay him now based on potential - best to bridge him at a much lower AAV. If he can develop his defensive positioning (like Lidstrom did), he will do very well in the league and has the potential to be great.

All correct. Wouldn't be interesting to see how People's opinion of Makar would have been if he was a Canuck last year given the schedule and the bad luck the club had... - LordHumungous
Well I’m not one to single out a player & heap blame on him. Teams win or lose as a team. |

Cale Makar, just like Quinn Hughes, is a remarkably talented hockey player. Colorado had the highest GF in the league last year and the third lowest GA….it certainly helps when you play with phenomenally talented players. - LeftCoaster
Good points & the AV’s are further along than us having started earlier. |

What kind of ridiculous bullsh!t is this?
Calling a bottom 10 team a "bad team" is bulletin board material that will be remembered and retaliated during the season?!?!
Have you watched the Canucks? Let's start with popping someone for what was DONE during the game before getting our panties twisted about what was SAID in the offseason.
This fcuking fanbase. |

That is exactly what I got from it. Everything he said was accurate. Quinn is an elite level defenseman that had some defensive blunders and played for a defensively bad team. It came from a player outside the canuck organization though so it means he's wrong and dumb lol - Codes1087
He only played 2 games against the Canucks. I’ll bet fans watch more & know more than he does. |

Jack Hughes is probably a cocky kid. He went first overall in the NHL entry draft. There are only 61 kids who have ever done that. He’s been the best player on his team since he was 10 probably.
I think he knows the game better than anyone who frequents these boards and I applaud him for giving a real interview instead of some cliche bullshit. - 1970vintage
He’s not the best player on NJD.
He might know the game better but he hasn’t met 1oa expectations. Overrated |

I'll bet he said it on purpose to get QH in trouble because QH was always mom's favourite. |

He's also played with his brother for his entire life. I think Jack can say whatever he wants and has the credentials for his words to be taken seriously.
Why are people getting so upset over something so small I'm honestly baffled so many people are taking offense to a complete non issue. No one is going to go head hunting or get retribution on Jack for his words, and I gatuntee more people in here care more than any single canuck player. |

I’m not upset at all & as for credentials only NHL ones matter.
When or if he’s ever in the PO’s I cannot wait to see how he handles pressure & hitting & defensive hockey. |

My question is why does he even answer or offer his opinion on Quinn or the Canucks? His best ploy would be to be vague & leave it at that imo.
Since he did make the comment then go on about the other 30 teams. He’s a kid & is hardly in a position to say whole lot on much. |

Matthew did the same thing about bradys negotiations in Ottawa and no one batted any eye or said diddly squat. Only this fanbase can make a mountain out of a molehill |

Not yet. Literally every player on the Canucks is overrated, by the fanbase at least. I would take JH on my team any day, he’s going to be a great NHL player. |

This reminds me of dismissing an article based on the headline because you don’t like the author, even though you didn’t actually read it. |

Or dismissing a graph/chart because it's organized alphabetically and you don't like the idea of a player being above another player based on his name |

He's supposed to be the 1D, if he wants to be paid like a typical 1D he better be able to do it all, or at least enough that he doesn't need a nanny on his off-side to take care of things for him. Jack Hughes is a moron, he talks poop about another team's shortcomings when he himself has underperformed based on his draft position and was a reason why his own team underperformed. People in glass houses should not be throwing stones lest they shatter them and get cut with the shards. |

Hes just defending his brother a bit, I really don't see any harm. And Jack isn't wrong, the canucks were a bottom 10 team out of 31 teams. That by definition is a bad team.
The part that bugs me, is the same people who defend this team saying they were better than they showed because covid hit them hard, are still ripping on Hughes for his defensive lapses when he was rumored to have one of the worst struggles with battling covid. People just like to pick their spots I think lol |
