The vast majority of Canadians don’t want a two or three tiered medical system. So saying we should turn away people because of their choices isn’t right. I could see that happening in America where the medical system is a for-profit system, but not in Canada where we have universal healthcare.

I can't speak for BC but I know in Alberta there are people being turned away for anything that's not killing them right this second. Family member discovered he has tumors in his ears, was told he will have to wait to find out if they are cancerous/to get them removed because there is simply no space due to covid patients eating up all the resources.

My father almost died of liver failure two springs ago and the Williams Lake hospital sent him home to die without knowing why his liver was failing. After a few days they pushed a DNR at him and said see ya, this empty ward is on standby for covid patients that don't exist more or less. Literally a whole empty floor and they send him home to die. He started to recover at home and it was later determined it was related to his prescriptions and a already abused liver but still... that is fkd up that they will shove people out the door when there is empty beds just in case.
