No reason to be bhurt over the trade. The blues are not to old. Let's put the facts out here. As of last year there are 6 teams that are older than blues who have an average age of 27.5. So this year adding perunovich 20, kostin 22, possibly neighbors 18. That is going to bring the age of team down. Also toronto Tampa Vegas and Washington are all older. Soooo how bout them apples - BlueTaco
No one in Ottawa is bhurt about this trade. Brown will never be an NHL player, he sucks!!! |

So, some Blues' fans are speculating that St Louis wants to dump Tarasenko in order to offer sheet Brady Tkachuk. If it is a lowball offer, Sens will simply match. But, if it is an offer sheet that brings back multiple 1st round picks...maybe the Sens pause, maybe they take it.
Remember you cannot lottery protect draft picks that are awarded as part of an RFA offer sheet. I see the Blues in a similar place as the San Jose Sharks when they made the disastrous Erik Karlsson deal with Ottawa. They are not likely to be a contender and perhaps, not even a playoff team this year. Is it possible the Blues could make lightening strike twice and gift the Senators another lottery pick? Probably not. |

Dorion keeps impressing me - Hardbalz
Dorion is a super scout and a great talent evaluator. Ottawa has a huge pool of young talent. Far too many talented kids to provide them all with NHL jobs. At some point in time Dorion needs to pull the trigger on a trade for a #1 centre and a #2 physical Dman.
As good as Dorion is when dealing with scouting, development and drafting issues, he still has not proven himself as an astute trader of existing NHL talent.
Notwithstanding the Erik Karlsson deal, the jury is still out in terms of Dorion is capable of trading for the right fit for the team.

Average age is such a basic view. A more insightful approach is to consider age based on role. Having a 20 year old 4th line forward brings down the average, but if the guy gets 9 minutes a night while a bunch of 30-something guys log big minutes then your team average is meaningless. Toronto might seem old, but most of the guys in key roles are younger. But having part time forwards like Thornton, Spezza, etc...raised the average. I like apple pie. Thx. - HockeyBuzzed
Once again you just don't know what ypu are talking about. Lol.

He may not be but you just took a cap dump for a reclamation project. Freed up 1.3 mil for blues. Also logan has a second chance to figure things out. Maybee he will maybee he won't. But we got Robert thomas signed and we are 735k under cap and if Logan doesn't play 30 games blues get 4th I'm really stacked draft |

That my friend is a really old team. No place to go but down. NHL players typically hit their prime production years in the 24-27 age range. Not much left in the tank on these old geezers.

I hope the Blues do offer sheet Brady. That would be amazing.
I cannot see Brady signing a contract for $6M so, given the current picks the Blues have available, if St Louis really wants to make that attempt, the team will have to pay him over $10M.
Ottawa will take those four 1st round picks, help Brady pack his bags and watch the Blues tank over the next few years with $10M tied up in a 50-60 point LW.
Brady is a great player but he is not worth what the Blues will have to cough up to snag him through an offer sheet. |

What am I wrong on? I just said average age was a poor measure when you dont account for the role. But thanks for proving my point. Most of your top 6 is 30+ with some pretty heavy mileage. Tarasenko has the body of a 45 year old. Some young bottom 6 forwards brings the average down. Although nice assumption that all those kids make the roster. What happened to Kyle Clifford? No mention of the defense...Krug, Faulk, Scandella, Bortuzzo. All 30+. Parayko is 28 and signed till he is what ...37? Good luck. |

I like Brady a lot and hope he signs a reasonable deal and stays but I don't think he's even an eight million player although I would be okay with it. If it came down to four first round picks and he actually signed such a sheet I'd help him pack his bags but I seriously doubt anything like that is likely to happen. |

Blues will struggle big time coming out of the gate. They will begin to sell off assets before Christmas. Ryan O'Reilly will be a prime target for multiple playoff bound teams.

Logan Brown will play for the Blues. They'll find a spot for him on the roster. Why do you think Dorion wanted so much for him. He knew Brown would play in the NHL but Smith screwed up the whole situation so badly that there was no coming back from all the animosity between the Sens and Browns. He had to trade him. The Blues stole him. |

Not sure who wins this trade in the long term, but I personally see Sanford providing more for their team the next couple years year at least.
Also provides depth on the left side with Brady out for awhile. - Glak18
Considering Ottawa blew a third rounder to move up just one spot in the draft to pick him when McAvoy, Chychrun, Kyrou, Debrincat, Kunin were on the board, I'd say Ottawa's lost the trade already. |
