If Hughes played defense, sure he is worth more. But the only thing he is better at is offense. Give him 5.5-6 and be done with it.

Pettersson is more important to the long term future of the club, IMO, they should lock him up for 9x8 like Edmonton did with Draisaitl before he broke out.

Give Hughes a two year bridge deal.

PK is part of the game that Hughes has no part off.

If you looked at Hughes as in baseball terms of being a 5 tool player, he's missing a lot of parts of being a complete player. No reason he should be paid like one.

i would agree with that generally. i think you're right that they need to lock up EP before the market gets even more out of control. the subtext of your opinion is that we both agree that EP will continue his upward trajectory.

as for hughes, most of us would like to see how his game develops before locking him up long term. it's virtually a certainty that QH will get a huge raise on a long term deal (now or in the future) but the team needs to know if he's more than just an offensive point producing d-man.

just generally on contracts, it's kind of funny how people (on one side or the other) will be up in arms if the contracts are $1m-2m over what "they should" be paid. but that 1 to 2 mil per season is the same amount that others are overpaid (if not more.) the point being, i'd rather managment negotiate hard with the "others" before they do it with the stars.

I just hope they sign because they’re going to struggle without them. As much as I hate Benning and Aquilini I’ve been cheering for the Canucks since I was a kid and I just can’t shut it off no matter how much I try. I want them to do well and get out of the NHL basement. Despite how cynical I am.

With return to a more "normal" calendar, two dates have returned to their regular spots. RFAs must sign by Dec. 1 to be eligible to play this year and players on one-year contracts can be extended on Jan. 1.

If Hamonic isn't going to play, the Canucks should just trade Hughes because they won't have someone to shelter him 5v5. Otherwise he's a 3rd pairing offensive defensemen that deserves 4M a season. He's playing with Luke Schenn.

Poolman seems to be playing with OEL. Myers and Hughes is the worst pairing in history probably.
