He probably wont be healthy for a full season.
- Fakepartofme

Maybe.

Regardless, it's not absurd to think he could score at that rate.

Kampf and Marner then.. I guessed Kerfoot, because he is quicker than Kampf.

Although, in saying that I realize that having two small forwards on the PK is probably not a good thing

- PatC80

Is Kerfoot quicker than Kampf? Admittedly, I haven't seen enough of Kampf but I was under the impression he was a strong and smooth skater.

If Kampf isn't quick he should definitely not be a shutdown C... which is what we've been sold.

Playing with McDavid = offense. If he's healthy I'd think 20G would be a bad year.

That being said ...I'd expect Ritchie, Bunting, Lupul's snowboard, Robidas' swimtrunks, etc.... to all bag 20+ playing with McDavid too.

Is this a requirement of shutdown centers?

Is Danault or Nash that quick?

I can't speak for Nash but Danault is a strong skater.

But yes, I believe a shutdown C better have some wheels. Do you disagree?

There's a good article in The Athletic today.

The short points:
- Dubas has been chasing him for years;
- He's All D all the time ...loves the role;
- He's a work-out beast (pic of his wife working out too ..hawt ..and her thighs are bigger than mine ..she'd kick our collective asses);
- Stats show he's great at DZone and getting puck into OZone;
- Going to be used heavily in that role.

“My goal is to shut down the best players in the NHL,” Kampf said.

I love his enthusiasm for D. He and Kase are the two guys I'm very interested in seeing this season.

I think it is a preference, not a requirement.

I always envisioned a shutdown C as being someone who is positionally sound. Being a fast skater is a good tool when you find yourself on the wrong side of the puck. I thought shutdown guys generally stay on the right side of the puck.

I would be interested to see a statistic on how many players in juniors switch from center to wing by the time they make the NHL.
- RickJames77

For years, Bobby Clarke's draft strategy was to take Canadian centres, and then move them to whatever slots he needed to fill.

FWIW he looked like a pretty good skater the other night.

I think it's a lock that he's the 3C to start the year and his wingers will be either Kerfoot, Mikky or Kase.

4th line will get spare OZ starts. Spezza, Simmonds and whoever doesn't land the 3rd line job or Bunting.

We need guys with that mentality..

Not guys, that are just 'happy' to be there that casually flip pucks

I think Biggio had been playing hurt all year while trying to learn a new position. I think it messed with his head. If Semien doesn't return, put Biggio back at 2B where he belongs; he was not as good as Semien was this year (Semien would win the gold glove if not for Merrifield, who I'm pretty sure is going to win), but he was above average.
- Monkeypunk

Has to be one of the understatements of the year. Biggio has upside for sure, but likely has more value as a utility extra player for the Jays. He's not good enough to be an every day infielder on this squad. Not defensively and not with his bat. And no player can replace Semien

You better be fast if you make bad decisions and are on the wrong side of the puck. The first key is playing smart positional hockey and focussing on defence first. That’s certainly his reputation.

I've been crying for some better 'roles' for the lineup and some line matching. Keefe seems more intent on doing it than Babs.

I grew up on Berg-Zezel-Osborne so I want to see a line that can defend the DZ, and grind the boards in the OZ. I think they're going to try. We haven't had a real dedicated checking line in forever. I guess Tucker-Green-Corson during the Sundin years was pretty good. They weren't quite so much defensive as they were frustrating to play against.

Give me a 4th line that can bring some intangibles like energy and a little scoring. Spezza, Simmonds and maybe Bunting might be nice.

Who plays on Kampf's line? Will it be Engvall and Mikheyev or Kase and Ritchie?

yeah if Biggio is playing fulltime, thats not good.

Just find another 7-8 WAR second base
