I respect your point of view but all this overpaying by all teams is going to bite them in the ass in two years.
First of all I heard again today by Dahliwal saying Canucks will be looking at Demers to replace TH.
These two players are very good players but they are not Superstars (at least not yet) Hughes is not Dahlin and just because Avs and Stars grossly overpaid their young Dmen does not mean we have to also. - VANTEL
Demers is interesting. |

Another first round exit or worse and McDavid might want out - Nucker101
What a whiney b1tch. The team made him the highest paid player in the world and he wants out? I wonder if he would be willing to give half back so they could get another good player? I mean it's all about the winning right?

that was my point in the blessing in disguise post.
I think if you can lock these players down with term and a more reasonable cap hit, than bridge them and be forced into paying them higher AAV when they are older than if you long term signed them early, the better
I would rather Pay Peter 8 or 9 million aav when he is 26 or 27 than 31 or 32. - Codes1087
I would void Hamonic’s contract if he doesn’t report and sign them both long term, but that’s me. |

i think they can void it entirely if he decides to not report by Friday as it is considered a breach of contract.
I think the option to opt out of playing was only in relation to the playoffs/bubble. |

Do you think you know those players better than the General Manager of the team? |

I guess SN cuts today were all across Canada not just 650. Kyrpeos is coming back to SN |

Demers is interesting. - Nighthawk
I believe Benning tried to trade Sutter for him a few years ago but Demers used his NTC to void the deal so Benning has liked him in the past. |

If a player opts out this year I believe he has the right to return next year . I know you know that these are not normal times , and they are making the rules as they go. If Haamonic says he is sitting this year and he will let Benning know next year then I believe the the Canucks have to honor it. |

They have the cap to accommodate that next year - I believe? |

He did 2 years ago but the difference now is he is unemployed and no other offers on the table.

I’m not sure on the legalities of opting out, if that’s an option still? I’d have to research it. |

yeah, the tables have turned
I saw him on social media this past summer telling Canucks fans that he's available to play |

They actually wouldn't .
They would have about thirteen contracts next year and you guys want to overpay EP and QH this year and pay Boeser and bring back Hamonic .
They would have enough if they stick with the bridge deals .

On the surface it’s refusing to play imo. Breach of contract there are no options. |

NHL is still honoring covid opt-outs, player doesn't get paid but their contract is still valid if it exists beyond this upcoming season. Pretty sure this was confirmed by The Athletic or Friedman, forgot which source |

I don't think anyone is suggesting they are top 10 players in the league, however Pettersson is 100% a star player right now. His comparables are guys like Eichel, Point and Barzal.
Hughes is not there yet, but Petey is, and he should be locked up long term. |

I think Vintsy said the other day 8.5 x 5 for Petey and that is fine. Hughes does not deserve more than 6 .
Problem / fun here is everyone here views the two players differently so we will never all agree.

Every team pays their star players big money, why should the Canucks be any different? Stop paying plugs so much money and pay your big guns.
Now, Quinn Hughes had a bad year and I’m all for bridging him, however, I’d easily pay EP40 9 million a year on an eight year deal. |
