Now imagine having to pay for a masters and phd knowing the job opportunities that come with it...
- Takemedrunkimhome

yeah my mistake was doing my bachelors at uOttawa... holy (frank) is it expensive compared to l'Université du Québec en Outaouais

Thanks for the precision, it changes everything that it was about a master degree and not a ph.d...

I did not want to be like super provocative, I just wanted to balance out the opinion (the general opinion, not just your comment) because I find the prejudices about social sciences are a bit exaggerated. Like if it was the stupidest thing in the world to study that because it does not lead to a stable job in a bank or whatever company. People know the job opportunities are not incredible. But sometimes there are other values that guide actions and people may think developing an understanding of the world through those sciences is more important to a certain extent than financial security.

Just calling them science is a bit of a stretch, they general consensus changes every decade depending on what's trending in most social sciences. While the earth's gravitationnal pull was always 9.807 m/s²

thing is though I saw a huge difference with the quality of teachers, might be more expensive but I did have some great teachers at uOttawa compared to l'UQO, although I'm not sure if it's fair to compare political sciences and project management.

I'm not sure consensus is what necessarily defines "science"...

Thought the "P" was because there's no professional order to regulate engineers in the US so people with technical degrees can be called "engineers" as well.

Also, you get the ring as soon as you get the degree. But you're a junior engineer for 3-4 years afterwards.

The lack of self awareness of how comically pretentious they are is mind blowing.

You chose to be useless. Accept that you're useless, don't try and shoehorn in on a useful profession's title.

- Takemedrunkimhome

Well, social sciences have transformed the world over the course of history maybe in a greater way than you are, even though I'm very recognizing of the role of the owners of small business for the economy and community. I'm both an entrepreneur (hiring people too) and a social sciences ph.d. (with direct clinical applications) and I have a numerous friends with masters in social science, even in indigenous history. Maybe granting a greater place to that kind of science (history of indigenous people) would have lead to a better awareness and sensitivity of the reality of Board Schools and systemic racism and we would not be facing such an embarrassing moment discovering the tombs of hundreds of abused children with an irresponsible surprise. But, yes, it's true, my friend did not find a job in his domain, so he works in another domain where he is also competent.

I just don't see where you find all those people whining pretentiously about their salaries after their studies in social sciences. On Twitter, on facebook,? where do you get that impression? I've heard social scientists pledge for a greater role of those sciences in our society, and corollary for more jobs in the domain, but I don't see how this is pretentious and mind blowing, fighting for something you believe in. In my experience, I've heard way more whining and prejudices about social scientists than the other way around.

But I mean, I know I probably won't convince you of anything but I wanted to underline that I find your way of seeing this a bit simplistic and diminutive and I don't think I'm a blinded stupid pelleteux de nuage that lives hooked to government subsidies.
