Just calling them science is a bit of a stretch, they general consensus changes every decade depending on what's trending in most social sciences. While the earth's gravitationnal pull was always 9.807 m/s² - Fredobbface
We won't go through the all the principles of epistemology but you have to know that that natural science conscensus once thought earth was the center of the world. And that an accepted theory such as the Big Bang is now more and more disputed. Like a studied both in natural sciences and social sciences, and you can be meticulous elaborating theories that have different explanatory power because they talk about phenomenon that are not all equivalent in terms of complexity and number of variables. Do you think like studying social phenomenon is impossible so we need to stick to gravity? I don't get the point. |

Well, social sciences have transformed the world over the course of history maybe in a greater way than you are, even though I'm very recognizing of the role of the owners of small business for the economy and community. I'm both an entrepreneur (hiring people too) and a social sciences ph.d. (with direct clinical applications) and I have a numerous friends with masters in social science, even in indigenous history. Maybe granting a greater place to that kind of science (history of indigenous people) would have lead to a better awareness and sensitivity of the reality of Board Schools and systemic racism and we would not be facing such an embarrassing moment discovering the tombs of hundreds of abused children with an irresponsible surprise. But, yes, it's true, my friend did not find a job in his domain, so he works in another domain where he is also competent.
I just don't see where you find all those people whining pretentiously about their salaries after their studies in social sciences. On Twitter, on facebook,? where do you get that impression? I've heard social scientists pledge for a greater role of those sciences in our society, and corollary for more jobs in the domain, but I don't see how this is pretentious and mind blowing, fighting for something you believe in. In my experience, I've heard way more whining and prejudices about social scientists than the other way around.
But I mean, I know I probably won't convince you of anything but I wanted to underline that I find your way of seeing this a bit simplistic and diminutive and I don't think I'm a blinded stupid pelleteux de nuage that lives hooked to government subsidies. - Réal_Ruelle
There's a lot to tackle here so I'll simply go with the fact I'm obviously generalizing in my statements and exaggerating to both make a point and for humour. That said, I went to university and know and had experiences with many phds who fall into the tropes we're discussing. Since graduating I've met many phds who fall into the tropes we're discussing and I even used the reference of my favourite bartender who falls into the tropes we're discussing. Economics matter and at the end of the month the rent is due...I know a few people who get paid on government grants and bursaries that without that tax money would be on the street without a real skill of any value in the marketplace - and that is the main reason in my experience why people resent phds beyond the typical pretentious attitudes. Many of us view it as a high brow version of begging for handouts |

I think social sciences are useful in a society but we don't need 10000 sociologist/anthropologist/gender study specialist/etc. |

I'm putting little boxes over words for a tech company. I expected to either market or help with the administration of destinations/museums, or design holiday packages, or worst case take care of travels within a company. |

Well, facial is face, labia is lip, and pilo is hair. So it's the study of facial lip's hair. |

Yes, I can acknowledge that.
But whatever, I mean, I'm just painting myself in a corner and I'm mainly on HB because my social scientists friends don't really like/watch hockey, lol. |

See above. I took it to have a job, and it was not described the right way, but...Let's just say I got a master's degree and I'm pretty sure someone who flunked high school could do it. |
