You're an Archer fan right? It reminds me of the discussion between Archer, Rip Riley and the guy who was an anthropology phd (played by David Cross) who translated on pirate island about phds and completing the cycle of why bother - Takemedrunkimhome
They ate his arm or something right?
I have to watch it again |

Smoke alot of weed and jsut wing it is my guess - Fredobbface
It's fine to think that applying to social sciences programs is not a smart move career wise but to think you do a ph.d. in political sciences or history by smoking weed is a bit contemptuous. There are people who like to be intellectually stimulated even though it's not financially rewarding. |

And the mooching of government grants (read tax payer money) for unimportant research that benefits next to nobody...that part bugs me too |

The lack of self awareness of how comically pretentious they are is mind blowing.

Been my watering hole for as long as I can recall and I'm treated well there because of it. People will wait at the bar for drinks and she'll make them wait while without asking getting my beer and bringing it to my table. My gf loves her too, they get along really well. Lastly I know her father from hockey growing up and just generally a good family.
I know, I ruined it |

Thanks for the precision, it changes everything that it was about a master degree and not a ph.d...
I did not want to be like super provocative, I just wanted to balance out the opinion (the general opinion, not just your comment) because I find the prejudices about social sciences are a bit exaggerated. Like if it was the stupidest thing in the world to study that because it does not lead to a stable job in a bank or whatever company. People know the job opportunities are not incredible. But sometimes there are other values that guide actions and people may think developing an understanding of the world through those sciences is more important to a certain extent than financial security. |

yeah, my bachelor's degree in International studies and modern languages was very interesting. it brought me absolutely nothing in terms of job opportunities, but I guess it did give me a lot of knowledge and tools to form my own critical opinion... anyway I'm still paying for it as of today lol
